INSIDER TIP for the ENDLESS SUMMER WATERMELON RIDE 2026

The Fort Clinch State Park entrance is across the street from the Start/Finish of the ENDLESS SUMMER WATERMELON RIDE.

Although the ride is not until Sunday, September 13, 2026, it is best to make your reservations now if you want to camp in an RV at the Fort Clinch Campgrounds.

Florida Residents can make reservations 11 months in advance, and non-Florida residents can make reservations 10 months in advance.
A nonrefundable $6.70 reservation fee applies to each reservation (not per night).

If you wait, you probably will not be able to get a reservation.

Sunday, August 31 - We did the annual pre-ride of the ENDLESS SUMMER WATERMELON RIDE 100-mile route. For the first 85 miles, it rained. Then heavy headwinds cleared out the rain.

Elevation over 100 miles = 78 feet according to my GPS. (crossing the Sisters Creek Bridge twice).

I liked this flat route, and it will be even better when there are Rest Stops, Police assisting, helpful Ride Marshals, SAGs, Sweeps, Volunteers, and other riders to draft behind.

Unfortunately, the route is not perfect. The Florida DOT decided to repave A1A from Little Talbot Island to the Mayport Ferry. It is done except that the milled shoulders have not been completed, making it impossible to ride on the shoulders for 5 miles. After discussing the situation with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO), we have rerouted the route by 3 miles onto the adjacent Timucuan Paved Bike Trail, and JSO motorcycle police will es**rt riders along the remaining 2 miles.

I strongly suggest that you read the Endless Summer Watermelon Ride Safety Brief, which will be published soon. Remember, SAFETY NOT SPEED. If you need to make a choice between going faster or being safer, always choose safety.

By the way, when I said "we" at the beginning of this post, it was just my bicycle and me.
