🌾 May 2026 Crop Update — Calaway Trading, Inc.
Our latest field update is here! Here's what we're seeing across key growing regions:
Alfalfa — Western states acreage is down year-over-year, and water shortages remain a top concern. In the Columbia Basin, first cutting is 20–30% complete after early heat and some rain impacts. Idaho's eastern regions saw a cold snap with snow, pushing harvest back. Oregon is progressing with northern areas wrapping up 1st cutting and Christmas Valley starting soon.
Timothy — Conditions have been largely favorable, though Ellensburg fields are showing higher-than-normal grass contamination this season. Columbia Basin harvest is fast approaching, with acreage reportedly up from last year.
Kleingrass & Bermuda — First cuttings are nearly complete in the Pacific Southwest. Note: the majority of Bermuda acres are headed to seed production this season, which will limit export volume.
Sudan & Straw — Still early in the season — stay tuned for more as things develop.
