Ultra-2 Autumn Gold ➡️ Ultra-7 Autumn Gold 🍂

Both are great systems, but for this project the homeowner decided to upgrade to Perma-Chink Systems Lifeline Ultra-7 for its rich finish and one-coat application. We’ve had great success with both products, but Ultra-7 continues to impress us with how evenly it lays out and how much depth it brings out in the wood grain on the first pass.

This home is getting:

Three different finish removers… two heavy coats of paint… and still putting it to the test.

We started with media blasting, but the buildup from the paint layers was too thick. Now we’re testing a chemical stripper to see how it performs—but in the meantime, hand sanding is already proving to be the method that’s getting it done.

Not every job goes by the book. The key is knowing how to adjust and use the right approach to get back to clean, bare wood the right way.

Stay tuned—this one’s getting stripped properly.

🌳 TREE BARK IDENTIFICATION GUIDE 🌳

1️⃣ Oak bark
Thick, rough texture with deep vertical ridges. Strong and durable appearance.

2️⃣ Birch bark
Smooth and light-colored with peeling layers. Easily recognizable by its papery surface.

3️⃣ Pine bark
Reddish-brown with flaky plates. Often appears cracked and layered.

4️⃣ Maple bark
Light gray and relatively smooth when young, developing shallow cracks over time.

5️⃣ Ash bark
Distinct diamond-shaped patterns with firm ridges.

6️⃣ Cedar bark
Fibrous, stringy texture that peels in long vertical strips.

Log end replacement with precise rot removal and sealing at the tops of exposed log ends—addressing water intrusion where it starts.
Repairs were completed using Perma-Chink Systems M-Balm and E-Wood, followed by Ultra-7 in Oak. Final color blending will be dialed in during the next phase. Morning Joe provided by Ithaca Bakery

Full log replacement, log end rebuild, and window frame restoration.

Failed sealant above allowed intrusion, leading to major deterioration. We removed all compromised material, rebuilt the and , sealed the seams with Perma-Chink Systems walnut Energy Seal to eliminate the issue at its source.
