As a long time energy auditor and consultant, I hope to provide insights into 'all things energy' -

As a small business owner and building science instructor, I know first hand the affordability and un-tapped potential of base-load reduction. Energy efficiency and conservation are an absolute key ingredient for a sustainable energy portfolio. As an energy auditor and efficiency consultant for many years, I have validated the powerful national and international statistics of efficiency first. For

every dollar we spend on efficiency, we are saving $4-6 of production costs! The cheapest energy is the energy not used or produced, and this can easily be achieved without being left cold and in the dark! There is an abundance of energy, and we need to develop smarter energy use policies and strategies to maximize our energy resources. Michigan is poised to become a global leader in energy efficiency and renewable energy production, and I hope to be a part of this transition towards a sustainable energy network. As an Energy Optimization Partner with most of Michigan's major utility companies, I cannot be anything but excited about the leadership role Michigan can play in the new energy paradigm that is emerging. The numbers are all there - our aging energy infrastructure is at a cross-roads. And when we compare Efficiency and Renewable energy with new Fossil fuel based energy, Efficiency and Renewables come out on top, hands down! I hope to bring my knowledge and passion to the table and to shed light on these time tested solutions so that we can feel confident that we, as users of energy, are investing wisely in our future energy portfolio to keep energy affordable, clean, and abundantly available. Attention Antrim County residents that get their electricity from Great Lakes Energy ~ I am running for re-election for the board of directors, and I would appreciate it if you would sign my petition to get me on the ballot! I need 50 signatures to get on the ballot, and I'd appreciate the support. I guess this is a good of a time as any to announce my re-election run for the Antrim Country representative on the Great Lakes Energy Cooperative board of directors, and Thanks to Michigan Country Lines Magazine for the article! I'll be looking for signatures on my petition in May, and voting is in July ~ thanks everyone! I've enjoyed being your representative on the board, and I would be honored to continue.

Very proud alumni here!! Cheers to Michigan State University and the Michigan State Spartans for installing the (soon to be) largest solar car-port in the United States! How about this for EVERY large parking lot in the U.S.?!? I've got some research to do...but that would likely cover an insane amount of our total use, and provide shade, rain & snow cover, etc!

This is pretty interesting, and I've always thought that a solar array that has multiple solar orientations would perform best over time, while offering up different 'load-following' characteristics as well. So by having a predominately W/SW array, the late afternoon/early evening sun can be better 'collected' and put on the grid while it's being taxed the most! Brilliant!

In an effort to better align solar-energy production with peak demand, the electric utility in Columbia, Missouri has begun to pay higher rebates for new west-facing arrays than it will for those facing south.
