On August 11, 2026, we will celebrate 40 years in business. The rehabilitation of 1235 S. Wabash Avenue goes back to the beginning in 1986.

A college friend and I set out to become architect-developers, but we had very little capital. We approached the building’s owner and offered our architectural and construction services as our equity contribution. In the end, we acquired a 49% stake, while the seller kept a controlling 51% interest.

Once we persuaded our parents to co-sign for a construction loan at 18% interest, the project was underway.

It was a bumpy road, but in the end, the project succeeded and taught us both invaluable lessons about partnerships, business, construction, and the realities of Chicago Street politics.

Excavation underway on our "Creek Nest House" project located in Chelsea, Michigan. Footings scheduled to start next week.

We are excited to be getting started on a new design for the expansion and remodeling of an existing family cottage on this scenic site in upstate New York. The site offers commanding views of Port Bay and Lake Ontario. The new design will draw on the organic principles of Frank Lloyd Wright emphasizing harmony with the site and landscape.

August 11, 2026 will mark the 40th Anniversary of WEST STUDIO. For four decades, we have been privileged to work with clients that have allowed us creative freedom to advance the enduring principals of Modern Prairie Architecture; creating structures that are beautiful and profoundly connected to their environment.
We are deeply grateful and look forward to continuing our commitment to exceptional design and construction in the years to come.

Our recently completed “Solar Harbor House” project. The house is designed to generate more clean energy than it consumes over the course of a year. Clean architectural lines combined with the warmth of natural materials create a balanced fusion between modern innovation and the beauty of organic architecture.

Almost a wrap at our Net Zero "Solar Harbor House" project. Only the punch list and bittersweet moment of turning over the keys for another baby remains.

The design concept for our “Wing Angle House” project draws inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright’s innovative use of the triangular unit system. Wright’s approach was centered on creating a harmonious relationship between architectural structure and the natural environment. We designed Wing Angle House using 30/60 degree angles to create visual interest and a structural rhythm that echoes natural forms.
