We’re on TV.

Our new commercial is airing now on FOX40 WICZ. Thirty seconds of what we actually do all day: the floor equipment, the products that keep buildings running, our vehicles out on the road, and the website where a lot of you place your orders.

Riley Maintenance Systems has been right here in Endwell since 1999. For most of those years our advertising was a flyer, a handshake, and whatever our clients told their neighbors about us. So seeing the RMS name come across the screen is a little surreal.

Thank you to all of our clients across the Southern Tier that have trusted us with their buildings. You’re the reason there’s anything worth putting on television.

It's National School Lunch Week, and it's also National Principals Month, so this one goes out to the schools we work with.

A school kitchen takes more abuse before noon than most buildings see all week. Two full rushes, hundreds of trays, hot line equipment, wet floors, and a hard stop when the bell rings. The people who keep that room safe and running almost never get mentioned.

A few things worth a look this week: food-contact surfaces need a sanitizer used at the right concentration, not just a general-purpose cleaner. Serving-line floors deal with grease and constant traffic, which is a slip risk as much as a cleanliness one. And the tray return is nobody's favorite station but it's where the mess concentrates.

Our Q3 2026 Environmental Impact Report just came in from Emerald Ecovations, and these numbers are based on what Riley Maintenance Systems actually purchased last quarter:

50 trees saved. 51 lbs of plastic avoided. 88 kg of carbon avoided. 11,305 gallons of water saved. 5,685 lbs diverted from the landfill.

That comes from switching to Tree-Free, plastic-free, commercially compostable products: cups, lids, takeout containers, bowls, cutlery, tissue, and toweling made from rapidly renewable fibers instead of trees and petroleum.

This year's Fire Prevention Week runs October 4–10, and the theme is lithium-ion batteries. That one hits close to home for anyone running modern cleaning equipment.

Cordless backpack vacs, lithium-powered scrubbers, battery burnishers — they've made crews faster and quieter, and they've also put a lot more lithium-ion batteries in supply closets than there used to be. A few habits worth reinforcing with your team: charge on a hard, non-combustible surface with air space around the unit, not buried in a closet under a pile of rags. Use the charger that came with the equipment, not whatever fits. Pull any battery that's swollen, damaged, or running hot out of service immediately, and don't put it back on the charger to get through the shift. And never charge in an exit route or stairwell.

💚 Today is National Custodial Workers Recognition Day!

Before the first student walks in, after the last meeting lets out, and all through the night, custodians are the reason our schools, offices, and facilities are clean, safe, and ready to go.

Happy first day of fall! Autumn officially arrives today at 8:05 PM.

Around here that means the leaves get good for about three weeks, and then everything that's outside starts coming inside on the bottom of people's shoes. Wet leaves, mud, road grit, and before long, salt.

A few things worth thinking about now rather than in November: matting at every entrance (the single best thing you can do to keep soil out of a building), an entryway plan for wet floors and the signage to go with it, ice melt ordered before the first storm instead of during it, and disinfectants on hand ahead of cold and flu season.
