It's going to be hot this week! Remember to take extra precautions when spending time outdoors. A few simple steps can help you stay safe, avoid heat-related illnesses, and keep your home comfortable during the hottest days of summer.

Looking for ways to manage your summer energy use? Try raising your thermostat a few degrees when you're away from home and using ceiling fans to help circulate cool air. These small adjustments can make a big difference in reducing energy costs while maintaining comfort.

Let's stay safe, stay cool, and look out for one another! ☀️🌡️💙

⌨️One of the best ways to protect yourself from online scams is by using strong passwords. While many people focus on complexity—adding symbols, numbers and capital letters—password length is equally important. A longer password or passphrase is harder for cybercriminals to crack. Create memorable phrases made up of several unrelated words, and avoid using personal information like birthdays or pet names. Use a unique password for each account and enable multi-factor authentication when possible.

Pizza, service trucks, and a little hands-on learning made for a great day at C.A.R.E./The John 3:16 Center in Littleton!

Last week, a few Halifax EMC employees enjoyed serving lunch to campers and giving them a closer look at the work our service technicians and lineworkers do each day. Campers got to explore a service truck and try on rubber gloves and sleeves to see just how challenging it can be to work safely while handling tools.

We had a blast spending time with these amazing kids!

💧 Higher Electric Bill? Your Well Pump Could Be Telling You Something.

We've had quite a few members with private well systems reach out recently about an increase in their monthly electric bill. In several cases, the culprit turned out to be a water leak.

Even a small leak, whether it's a dripping faucet, a running toilet, a pipe under your home or a hidden leak underground, can cause your well pump to run more often and for longer periods of time. Since your well pump uses electricity every time it operates, that extra runtime can add up quickly on your electric bill.

⚡ More pump runtime = more kWh used
⚡ More kWh used = higher electric bills
⚡ More runtime also means added wear and tear on your well pump

If you've noticed an unexpected increase in your energy use, it may be worth checking for water leaks around your home and property. A small leak can waste thousands of gallons of water over time, and your well pump works hard to replace every drop.

🔍 Schedule a leak inspection if you suspect a problem. A licensed plumber or well professional can help identify hidden leaks that may be costing you money month after month.

Check for:
💧 Dripping faucets
🚽 Toilets that continue running after flushing
🌿 Wet or soggy spots in your yard
👂 The sound of water running when no water is being used

Finding and fixing a leak could help lower your electric bill, conserve water, and extend the life of your well pump.

🌳⚡ A big thank you to the member who reported a tree on the power line this morning on Capps Farm Road!

Thanks to their quick call, we were able to dispatch a service technician right away and address the issue before it became a bigger problem.

To safely remove the tree, power had to be temporarily disconnected to two phases, resulting in a brief outage of about 20 minutes for members on Capps Farm Road and nearby areas. While we know any outage is inconvenient, this proactive action likely prevented a much longer outage that could have occurred if the tree had completely fallen and brought down the line.

We appreciate our members being our extra eyes in the field. If you see a potential hazard near power lines, please let us know right away. Your call could help prevent outages and keep our communities safe. 💚⚡🌳

🌡️ Summer Heat Got Your A/C Working Overtime? ❄️

One of the easiest ways to help your cooling system run efficiently is by checking your air filter.

A dirty air filter is like asking your air conditioner to run a marathon while breathing through a straw. The restricted airflow forces the system to work harder, run longer, use more electricity, and experience more wear and tear. The result is higher energy bills and potentially costly repairs.

That's why regularly checking and replacing your air filter is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to improve comfort, lower energy costs, and help your AC last longer.☀️🏠💨
