Please be on the lookout for Helen‘s dog 😢
Chewy didn’t come back last night or this morning. We’ve checked the cameras and left food for him that was untouched. We did see him at the bottom the hill on our road past dark drinking from the stream, but nothing since then.
As you can imagine I’m a little beside myself with anxiety and stress. I have been up all night, I have walked and walked and walked. I am absolutely exhausted but can’t rest.
In our 4 years here, we have had 3 dogs lost. 1 jumped the fence, 1 dug under it. With the sheer volume and amount of dogs we take in, it’s not a terrible number, especially since every episode we’ve made it a point of ensuring it doesn’t happen again. This is the first gate escapee we’ve ever had and I have to keep reminding myself that this is part of the contract in working with animals and dogs. Stuff will happen, accidents happen, all we can do is our best. Chewy didn’t bolt like he was terrified. He looked at us, and then just trotted off like he had an agenda.
Sharing and spreading the word helps. Sending good thoughts to the universe helps. Judgement and criticism doesn’t. No dog has ever been returned or found because someone was unkind to someone in a crisis. Remember that.
My worry now is he is in survival mode. He may be disoriented and not know which way is what. I have faith he’s still in the area though. So my hope is we get some sightings today and know where to either look, or place a feeding station. GSDR is on board and we’re chatting with them too. There’s plenty of fresh water around, but I’m hoping his hunger gets the better of him and he turns himself in to someone, anyone.
