Weather 71

Weather 71 Two longtime friends with a mutual love of all things weather with the goal of bringing you the most accurate forecasts around! We aren't about the clicks.

Weather 71 is the creation of Bill Bertke and Ed Gabis, two weather loving friends that both dabbled in storm watching and predictions. In 2017, it became apparent that individually, we were getting forecasts correct and each of us had somewhat of a following on our personal pages. So, we decided to start Weather 71 in an effort to share our information with the masses. Ed lived in LaGrange, and I

lived in Verona... so with Interstate 71 being the route of travel between us, we chose Weather 71 as our name. Neither of us have any degree or formal education in weather sciences... we utilize many of the same tools that local media weather forecasters use. There is a lot that goes in to forecasting weather, and we both feel we had a knack for seeing things a bit differently than just looking at info or reading off a teleprompter. In April of 2018, right in the midst of a spring severe weather outbreak, Ed passed away unfortunately. I wasn't sure what to do with this page, and after a month or so the decision to keep the page running in Ed's memory struck me as being the obvious thing to do. Being a one man show is tough when you have family, work, and other hobbies you enjoy. Somehow, I managed to keep this going. In 2024, a social media reconnect with an old college buddy came out of the blue... and wouldn't you know he's a big weather nerd as well! So it was easy to ask Mick Meyer if he wanted to help out on the page, which he gladly accepted and I will be forever grateful for! Mick was introduced in January 2025 and is a great addition to the team here. We take pride in keeping our page lighthearted but accurate. We just want to share our ideas and thoughts on upcoming storms. Over the years, may local first responders and leaders have commented that Weather 71 is there go guide for planning. As a first responder myself, who was ALWAYS wanting the most up to date weather information, I take great pride in that! So kick back and stay a while. Give us a chance. We don't think we'll let you down! Bill and Mick

Didn't get much overnight rain here in Erlanger.
However, any time after the noon hour and through the early evening, expect rain and storms, some strong. It will be very wet later today!

Tuesday 05/26/2026 UPDATE:
A FLOOD WATCH has been posted for our area (counties shaded green) from 2am through the day tomorrow.
An inch of rain is expected, though there may be areas that see 2-3 inches of rain during that period.
We can't rule out a storm (likely strong, but nothing severe as of now) as well over the next 24 hours.
With the ground already being saturated, it doesn't take much additional rain to create a flood situation.
NEVER drive through high water (ask me how I know). Be safe, and take an alternative and safe route.

Sunday 05/24/26 10:00AM update:

Rain is moving in from the south / southwest and will continue in varying intensity through the afternoon. It should be moved out this evening... so those late cookout plans could still happen.

Monday looks to be mostly cloudy, slight chance of a passing shower or drizzle, and a high in the mid to upper 70's. Could very well be some hours of sunshine as well.

Be safe, and enjoy the unofficial start to summer. And remember to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in order to preserve our freedom and the freedom of others.

Showers will spread across the area from south to north today. Some embedded thunderstorms may occur this afternoon into tonight. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible area-wide. This could lead to flash flooding, with the greatest potential in and near the watch area.

Happy Friday!
Well, if you enjoy wet and gray I guess you'll be happy...
Showers develop this morning and increase in strength and coverage as we go through the morning and into the afternoon.
Close to an inch of rain is expected today, then again overnight, before tapering off early morning Saturday.
Saturday afternoon will bring more rain and storm chances, though they will be more of a hit or miss variety.

Stay dry and pack an umbrella out the door with ya!

Midday through the evening tomorrow (Friday 05/22) could get a little rough.
Areas south of the river and including portions of southwest Indiana are a Level 1 risk (low) for severe weather. A tornado is certainly not out of the equation, though I feel the further south of the greater Cincy area you go, the greater the chance increases (think Louisville and Lexington south in to Tennessee).
It will be wet tomorrow afternoon, evening, overnight, and into the day on Saturday before rain moves midday Saturday.
Weekend plans aren't completely washed out, as Sunday and Monday will offer some rain chances, but also plenty of dry times.

We'll keep you updated as need be!

The Memorial Day weekend is almost here. It might not be perfect, but it doesn't look horrible. Friday will be the wettest of the 4 days. Highs in mid 70's, for the Sunday and Monday celebrations, with passing showers possible each day.
If anything drastically changes, we'll let ya know. Just be aware it may not be ideal cookout / pool parties type of weather.

See ya!
~ Bill

I fully expect that watch area to venture just a wee bit south over the river and into Kentucky.
