Every historic landmark tells a story, but preserving that story isn't always as simple as repairing what already exists.

The right approach requires an understanding of historic craftsmanship, thoughtful evaluation of existing conditions, and the ability to recreate architectural metalwork that remains true to the original design while meeting modern performance expectations.

For more than 130 years, Stewart Iron Works has helped preserve the character of historic places through craftsmanship rooted in tradition and built for the future. Our latest blog explores the considerations behind those decisions and how thoughtful recreation can honor the past while preparing landmarks for generations to come.

Every historic landmark has details that require custom solutions.

At the Kentucky Governor's Mansion, Stewart Iron Works fabricated and installed more than 1,000 feet of ornamental perimeter fencing, including a custom dual-paneled entrance gate. Every circular detail and picket top was individually forged by hand.

Projects like this reflect Stewart Iron Works' long history of designing and fabricating custom ornamental metalwork for some of the region's most significant historic landmarks.

Recently, we were sent photos of the ornamental iron fencing surrounding the historic Tippin-Walton Cemetery. Dating back to burials from 1892 through 1985, the cemetery's fencing is a reminder that Stewart Iron Works craftsmanship can be found in communities across the country.
