Recently, 18 Oregon electric cooperative leaders, including Lane Electric Central District Director Ingrid Kessler, traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with members of Congress to discuss federal policies that shape reliability, safety and affordability for the communities we serve.

Scott Coe breaks down what those conversations covered in his latest Manager Message. πŸ§‘β€πŸ’Ό πŸ’¬

🌲 πŸƒ πŸͺš June 8-14 is Right-of-Way Professionals Week! πŸͺšπŸƒ 🌲

Keeping power lines clear in rural Lane County is a herculean task. We thank your team for all they do to keep our system safe, reliable, and ready to serve. πŸ‘

With Lane Electric's acquisition of the lower McKenzie, we've added a journeyman tree trimmer position. He'll work with our right-of-way supervisor to oversee work from our contract crews throughout our 3,000 square miles of territory.

Right-of-way work doesn't just help reduce outages. It improves reliability and speeds up restoration when the power does go out.

Thanks to our partners Uppercut Tree Service, Inc and DJs.

🚨 With hot, dry weather on the way, Lane Electric has begun implementing Wildfire Safety Settings on our system.

What does that mean? πŸ€”
β€’ Lines will operate at a higher sensitivity to reduce the chance of a spark
β€’ If a line encounters a disturbance (animal, limb, etc.), it will de-energize within a fraction of a second
β€’ This could lead to brief outages
β€’ As with any outage, crews will respond, patrol, and restore power

What can you do? πŸ”¦
β€’ As always, be prepared. You can find tips on how to prepare for wildfire season on our website. https://buff.ly/h2oNTIZ

The cooperative’s system will remain operating in Wildfire Safety Settings through the summer. β˜€οΈ

Work is underway on Highway 126 to tie Lane Electric's upriver system to the downriver lines formerly operated by EWEB. ☨ ⚑️

It's not as simple as as it sounds.

Each utility operates slightly differently. The Lane Electric team is installing a new pole and equipment to properly link the electrical phases between the two systems.

This will improve reliability for members in the area near the connection and is an important step in a multi-year project to improve reliability in the river valley. πŸ’«

Don't let today's cool temperature fool you. We've officially entered fire season.

Today, the Oregon Department of Forestry implemented Industrial Fire Precaution Level 1. This recognizes that fire season requirements are in effect.

For utilities like Lane Electric, Level 1 has restrictions for our crews, including working during low relative humidity (less than 30%) and east wind events. From now through fire season, the cooperative will closely monitor daily weather conditions. 🌩️ πŸƒ β˜€οΈ

Update, 12 p.m. - Power is back up!

- - -

Update, 10:15 a.m. - Based on conversations with BPA, we estimate power will be restored by 1 p.m.

Since this outage is impacting our substation, all members will be restored at the same time.

We'll update if anything changes.

- - -

June 3, 9:30 a.m. – We have an outage impacting members in the McKenzie area. The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) has a tree in contact with its transmission lines. They have dispatched a team to isolate the issue.

Restoration will take several hours. We’ll update as we learn more from our partners.

What can we say, the GM loves a selfie! πŸ“·

Thanks to GM Coe for multi-tasking and taking a snap from the stage at the Annual Meeting.

And, THANK YOU, to the nearly 300 member-owners who joined us for Lane Electric's Annual Meeting on Saturday.

We had a great time talking with you, celebrating our scholarship and award winners, and more.

Stay tuned for a round up of the meeting in the July quarterly newsletter. πŸ“ͺ

Here are a few things to know:

- The bucket truck marks the way. It will be parked in front of the entrance to the courtyard and meeting area.

- If you’d like assistance with the walk-in, we’ll have staffers offering a lift with golf carts. Pick-up points will be marked by signage in the two main parking lots.

- Forgot to RSVP and still want to attend, not a problem. All members are welcome, RSVP or not.

See ya soon!
