We honor and remember Verne Crookshanks, one of the founding fathers of Venida Packing. Verne co-founded Venida in 1977 alongside George Tantau, Michael Murray, and the Myers brothers.
For 33 years, Verne served as manager here at Venida, helping guide the company through decades of growth and success. Even after his retirement, he remained a constant presence in the office—offering wisdom, mentorship, and support to the next generation of leadership.
Together with his brother Glenn and Myra Crookshanks, Verne was instrumental in shaping Venida Packing into the strong and successful company it remains today. He truly cared about the people who worked here, building lasting relationships with employees and earning the affectionate nickname “Mr. Vernida.”
Verne was known for his generosity, compassion, and unwavering dedication—not just to the business, but to agriculture and the community as a whole. Outside of work, he loved the outdoors and was an avid duck hunter. Above all, he was a devoted family man.
Verne’s legacy lives on in the heart of Venida Packing and in the many lives he touched. He is deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with him.
Rest in peace, Mr. Vernida.

We would like to take a moment to recognize and express our deepest appreciation for Felipe Alcaraz, who has been a dedicated and valued member of the Venida Packing family since June 3, 1996.
Felipe came to us from Lulu Packing in Lindsay, bringing with him phenomenal experience in cold storage and fruit handling. He was hired by Richard Donkin during a time when Venida Packing was primarily focused on packing stone fruit, kiwi fruit and pomegranates. From the very beginning, Felipe’s expertise stood out — he had the rare ability to visually determine a bad pomegranate internally from a good one, a skill that brought immense value to our packing operations and helped maintain the high quality standards our company is known for.
Over the years, Felipe has become much more than an employee — he has become the watchman of our company. His sense of responsibility and dedication are truly exceptional.
Felipe took great pride in the appearance of our facilities — going so far as to paint and beautify the company grounds with such enthusiasm that he once even attempted to paint stainless steel. That same drive extended to his core responsibilities, where he monitored the cold storages with absolute precision and care — a task he still performs with excellence to this day.
His loyalty, conscientiousness, and unwavering work ethic have made a lasting impact on Venida Packing. Felipe has always treated this company as if it were his own, always on call and always looking out for the well-being of the facility and his team.
We are proud and honored to have had Felipe Alcaraz with us all these years, and we thank him sincerely for his ongoing service, dedication, and the deep care he brings to everything he does.

For more than three decades, Carmen Perez has been a cornerstone of Venida Packing. As a dedicated supervisor, Carmen leads with both strength and grace, overseeing more than 100 women on her team with unwavering commitment and a contagious smile that lights up the facility.
Carmen began her journey working with peaches, nectarines and plums, and through the years, she has grown into one of the most respected and knowledgeable figures in the company. Her deep experience in the field, combined with her unmatched work ethic, has made her an invaluable leader and mentor to many.
Known for her punctuality, organization, and calm demeanor under pressure, Carmen ensures that every shift runs smoothly and efficiently. She pays close attention to detail and is always ready to step in wherever she’s needed, never shying away from hard work. Whether it's a busy harvest day or a challenging production schedule, Carmen brings positivity, professionalism, and reliability to every task.
Venida Packing is proud and honored to have Carmen Perez as part of our family. Her years of service and dedication are a true testament to what it means to lead with heart and integrity.

At the heart of Venida’s success is Richard Donkin, the Production and Operations Manager (and co‑owner), who has been an integral part of the company’s leadership since 1988. With nearly four decades of experience, Donkin has played a central role in streamlining operations, modernizing packaging processes, and maintaining Venida’s high standards for quality. His hands-on approach is evident in projects.
Under Donkin’s guidance, Venida Packing continues to flourish—delivering consistently on its promise of excellence, integrity, and environmental stewardship.
It is important to note that Donkin was hired by Verne Crookshanks in 1988, one of the owners at the time and without his excellent staff some of whom have been working at Venida since 1977 still continue to be successful in making Venida what it is today.
