🧽 A number that reframes how you think about cleaning almost any floor: up to 75% of the soil in a building is dry particulate. Sand, grit, dust.

Cleaning chemistry isn't built for that 75%. It's built for the other 25% — the binders holding soil onto the surface. So skipping dry soil removal and jumping to the wet stuff isn't a shortcut. It's spending chemistry on a job it was never designed to do.

Bill Luallen calls dry soil removal the most critical step in the process, and the one most often rushed.

The second half matters just as much: removal. Once soil is suspended — or absorbed and dried, in the case of dry compound cleaning — it has to physically leave. Clean a floor and let it air dry with the soil still in it, and that soil settles right back down. Often more stubbornly than before. 😬

Which is why the final step of the GrabDry® process is "vacuum thoroughly." That's not tidiness. That's the step where the dirt actually leaves the room. 🧹

Ever notice a carpet gets dirty faster after it's been cleaned? 🤔

Usually that's residue.

A lot of carpet cleaners leave something behind in the pile. That leftover stays slightly tacky, and it grabs onto every bit of dirt that walks across it. Two weeks later the "freshly cleaned" area looks dingier than the carpet around it — and it's not because the cleaning failed. It's because something was left in there.

GrabDry® sidesteps that by design. No soap. No rinse water. The compound absorbs the soil, dries, and then both the compound and the dirt come out in the vacuum. Nothing sticky left behind to re-attract soil.

🐑 Safe on nylon, wool, and stain-resistant carpets and rugs — which covers just about every carpet and area rug in a typical home.

👻 The spot you cleaned last week is back. You didn't miss it. It came back on its own.

There's a name for this: wicking.

Here's the physics. Everything in a carpet is trying to reach equilibrium — wet moves toward dry. When you clean with a lot of water, moisture pushes soil down to the base of the carpet. As that moisture evaporates back up through the fibers, it carries the soil along with it and deposits it on the surface. The spot reappears while the carpet dries, not after.

Which is one of the quiet advantages of a low-moisture approach like GrabDry®. There's no flood of rinse water driving soil to the base of the pile, so there's nothing waiting to wick back up.

This one from Bill Luallen also covers how to read a returning spot — the shape tells you whether it was a spill, and the location often tells you it was never a cleaning problem in the first place. 🕵️

🧹 Three steps. No bucket. No machine rental. No "stay off the carpet until tomorrow."

GrabDry® is an extreme low-moisture cleaning compound. Sprinkle it over the carpet, work it in with the included soft-bristle brush, let it dry, then vacuum it up. While it sits, the compound absorbs the dirt, soil, and odor that have settled down into the fibers — and then it all leaves together in the vacuum bag.

Here's the part that surprises people: because no rinse water ever goes into the carpet, the area is back in normal use in minutes, not hours.

A few things worth doing before you start: ✅ Vacuum first to pull out loose dirt ✅ Test a hidden area for colorfastness ✅ Work in sections no bigger than 20 sq ft

Sprinkle. Brush. Vacuum. That's the whole job.

💧 Kicking off a month of carpet talk with the question sitting underneath all of it: how much water does cleaning a carpet actually require?

Less than most people assume.

Water rinse extraction can leave carpet damp for hours — up to eight of them in the wrong conditions. Low-moisture systems typically dry in 20 to 30 minutes. That gap isn't only about convenience. Carpet that stays damp all day is a hospitable place for mold and mildew to set up.

The mechanism is different too. Rather than injecting a water solution into the pile and pulling it back out, low-moisture cleaning uses chemistry to release soil from the fiber, agitation to lift it to the surface, and vacuuming to carry it out once everything is dry. Bill Luallen compares it to combing your hair — material comes out without anything being dragged through the fiber. 💇

The piece also lands on something worth sitting with: real-world soil is roughly 80% dry particulate, and silica — the component doing the most damage to your carpet fibers — doesn't dissolve in water at all.

So the useful question was never "how wet did we get it." It's how much soil actually left the building. 📊

Asphalt yellowing isn't a surface stain—it's a chemical attack on your flooring!

When "oily" petroleum residues from parking lots get tracked indoors, they interact with the flooring in uniquely destructive ways. From plasticizer migration in LVT to polymer oxidation in carpet fibers, dealing with this issue requires an understanding of the "science " of what's happened.
In this article
✅ The chemical mechanisms behind asphalt yellowing.
✅ Why it happens to all types of flooring.
✅ How to use a 3-Zone Matting System for ultimate source control.

Don't let oily soils track into your facility and ruin your flooring this summer. Read the full article here! 👇

Asphalt yellowing is more than ordinary soil—it is petroleum-based walk-off that can permanently discolor carpet, resilient flooring, and natural stone.
