CUSTOM RIFLE RANGE DESIGN

A pile of steel targets isn’t the same thing as a well-designed rifle range.

We’re currently working on a custom private range setup with target presentations from 50 yards out past 500 yards.

The goal is to make every berm different and give the shooter something new as the distance increases — different size gongs, IPSC targets, silhouettes, reactive targets, and multiple stand and mounting systems.
And of course, we’re building it around 3/8” SR500 steel.

We’re also working through several stand and reactive target designs specifically for this range. I want the final setup to be durable, challenging, easy to maintain, and built around how the owner will actually use the range.

This is one hell of a review to receive. 🇺🇸

Laramie Rifle Range in Wyoming purchased twenty 3/8" SR500 swinging gongs from Dead Center Fabrication and put them to work where target steel actually gets tested.

They started on their 400-yard berm, where the steel takes repeated hits from cartridges including 7mm Magnum, .300 Win Mag and .300 PRC.

Their assessment after putting our SR500 to work:

“No dimpling. No pe*******on. No excuses.”

Newly designed plate rack got its first real test today. 🔥

AR500 steel, a Shadow Systems XR920P, and a whole lot of ringing steel.

Safe to say: test passed.

We don’t build targets to sit around looking pretty. We build them to get shot.

Hundreds of impacts. Not one dent.

We put a 3/8-inch SR500 target at 1,000 yards and let competitors at Battle at 66 Mountain ELR Match hammer it all day with everything from .33 XC and .375 CheyTac to .460 Warthog and .50 cal.

After hundreds of impacts, the surface was covered—but the steel stayed flat. It held up even better than I expected.

That’s why we build shooting targets from SR500.

For anyone comparing AR500 vs. SR500 steel targets, this is the kind of real-world abuse we test against.

1,000 yards. Everything from 33 XC to the biggest rifles on the firing line. Not one dent.

Yesterday, we set a 3/8-inch Dead Center SR500 target at 1,000 yards so competitors could confirm their rifles before the match.

It took hit after hit from serious ELR cartridges all day—and the steel barely showed it had been shot.

No craters.
No dents.
No excuses.

This is exactly why we chose SR500.
