The Challenge💥 An aging low-head dam on Seven Mile Creek near Saint Peter, MN, created safety concerns and limited fish movement.

The Solution💡Working alongside the Nicollet County Soil and Water Conservation District and Minnesota DNR, HEI designed a new rock arch rapids replacement providing a safer and more natural stream crossing that allowed fish passage. Learn more in the below video.

🏆 Two awards. One project. Lasting impact.

The Eastern Polk County Stream Restoration Project earned both the ASCE Iowa Outstanding Civil Engineering Project Achievement Award and the APWA Iowa Project of the Year Award in the Environment, $500k to $1m category. Through collaboration among Polk County Conservation, Polk County Public Works, Veit & Company, and HEI, the project is helping protect public resources, improve water quality and habitat, strengthen flood resilience, and preserve recreational opportunities for years to come.
