Its original owner Joseph Scherrman with partner Charlie Kay started the business in 1919 and in 1934 Joseph purchased Kay's interest in the company. In 1945 John Scherrman purchased the company from Joseph and incorporated the business in 1948. The original name of the corporation was J.P. Scherrman's Garage and Implements, Inc., later shortened to J.P. After John's death in 1965 the dealer princ
ipals through the years have been Robert, Laurence and Paul Scherrman. Currently the owners of the company are Paul and Michael Scherrman with Michael and Rob Scherrman being fourth generation Scherrmans working in the business. The company first started as a repair service located in Farley north of the current American Legion, that original building has been replaced with a new structure and business. A new garage was built in 1934 and still stands at 109 First Avenue. That location housed the business until 2004. In February, 2004 the company moved to its current location west of Farley next to highway 20. The current location has 17,000 square feet of building on four acres of land. The company first started as a repair service in 1919 and in the 1920s and 1930s sold small gas engines to generate electricity as well as hardware items. In the 1940s and 1950s the company broadened their business interests. During those years the company became an International Harvester dealer along with a Chevrolet, DeSoto and Plymouth car dealership. Other departments included, plumbing, heating and electrical work. A gas station, wrecker service and tire sales were also available. A full line of appliances and TVs were also sold into the 1970s. Through the years the company lost the International Harvester and car dealerships and decided that appliances along with plumbing and heating were no longer profitable. Agriculture now and in the past has been the company's primary focus. Currently the company is a dealer for Bobcat, Kuhn, Kubota, Supreme, Keenan, and Avant. Full time employees at the dealership are Paul Scherrman, Mike Scherrman, Rob Scherrman, Mark Goedert, Tom Klaren, Andy Seabrooke, John Kruse and Julie Kennicker.
