Winter is coming — is your burner equipment ready?
As we move toward the colder months of Q4 and Q1, pre-winter preventive maintenance is one of the most important steps operators can take to support reliable burner performance.
Successful combustion depends on a properly balanced air-to-fuel mixture, reliable ignition, and properly functioning safety and control components. When flame arrestors, air/fuel mixers, ignition components, fuel trains, or firetubes become restricted, contaminated, or improperly adjusted, burner reliability and combustion performance can suffer.
More importantly, now is the time to address these items, while temperatures are manageable and road and site conditions remain favorable, rather than troubleshooting equipment after freezing temperatures and snow arrive.
SureFire recommends including the following in your pre-winter PM program:
• Visual system inspection
• Combustion analysis
• FT ignition unit inspection and servicing
• Firetube inspection
• Flame arrestor cleaning
• Fuel train inspection
• Air/fuel mixer inspection and cleaning
• Safety and control device verification
• Final burner tuning and operational verification
A little preventive maintenance today can go a long way toward achieving reliable ignition, proper combustion, reduced callouts, and consistent burner operation throughout the winter months.
Prepare now. Tune it properly. Keep it running when the temperatures drop.
