🔬 Additional Cancer Facts for Cats

- White and light-colored cats are especially prone to sun-induced squamous cell carcinoma on the ears, eyelids, and nose — keeping them indoors or limiting sun exposure helps reduce risk.

- Mammary tumors are the third most common cancer in cats, and over 85–90% are malignant. Spaying before the first heat cycle can reduce the risk by up to 90%.

- Lymphoma is the most common cancer in cats, and there’s a strong link between feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) infection and lymphoma development.

- Secondhand smoke exposure in cats is linked to a higher risk of oral squamous cell carcinoma and lymphoma. Cats groom themselves, which means smoke particles settle on their fur and are ingested.

- Obesity not only increases the risk for diabetes and arthritis but is also a known cancer risk factor in both cats and humans.

Common warning signs of feline cancer include:
- Visible lumps and bumps
- Lethargy
- Weight gain or loss
- Vomiting
- Difficulty eating
- Diarrhea
- Trouble breathing
- Difficulty passing urine or f***s
- Bad breath
- Sores
- Bloating
- Blood in the f***s
- Blood-tinged urine

We are so happy to know that Teddy is cancer free and thank his family for trusting in Torigen for obtaining a world-class, expert diagnosis.

But for so many owners, we understand that receiving positive news is not what everyone gets to hear. More than 4 million dogs are diagnosed with cancer each year.
