This right here is a good example of what you get when you hire the cheapest company to move and set up your home. I won't say the company name, but I've gone behind them and a few others quite a few times now. This customer hired them to move and set up their single wide, which they did. But the homeowner has common sense and realized something was not right with the set up and asked them to come fix it and they didn't. So they reached out to me and I went out and showed them every thing I could find that, based off the NC code book, should fail inspection. Now here in Eastern NC our inspectors are not as familiar with the manufactured home code book as they should be. With that being said, a lot of things that should not pass inspection, do pass inspection, based off the lack of knowledge. There's multiple small things that guys have done for years that technically should fail inspections but have always passed, so they just keep on doing it that way. I personally do not. I learned the rules and regulations directly from the code book. So thats exactly how I do all of my set ups. If there is anything I have a question with, I pull out one of the code books I have in each vehicle, or the one on my phone and find the correct answer I need so I know its done like it is supposed to be, no questions asked. So far, since I have been doing this, I have not failed a set up inspection. I checked this house and found around 25 things, some of them were duplicate issues. I believe there was about 22 pillars under the home and probably only 8 of them were touching, and thats not an exaggeration. Blocks were broken, pillars not plumb or level, 2" blocks used for caps, more than 2" of boards and wedges on the pillars, blocks not facing the correct direction, no anchors for the Xi2 systems which now requires overhear/uplift/sidewall anchors. It was 4 corner frame anchors prior but they didnt have either. No door supports or pillars, the xi2 systems didnt have the screws in the cross bars or all 4 of them, the hardware was not the correct hardware and none of them were tightened down, no moisture barrier, and the home was not even level at all. I probably forgot something. But this is crazy.
We went out there and lifted the home and completely reset each side and lowered it down a block, installed the moisture barrier, re leveled it, and secured it down properly. The customer was super happy. It looks 100 times better and most importantly the home is level and secured. You cant feel any movement while walking in the home and it feels secured like it should be. Unfortunately, it costed them a little more money for having to get it done twice. But its done correctly and they are happy. To avoid these situations just call the ones that do it correctly the first time. 252 558-5001
