Hvac tip of the month
Warmer weather is right around the corner — and the worst time to find out your A/C isn’t working… is the first 90° day of the year.

Here are 5 simple things homeowners should do right now:

✅ Change your air filter
A dirty filter restricts airflow and makes your system work harder (higher bills + more wear).

✅ Clear debris around your outdoor unit
Leaves, grass, and weeds block airflow. Give it at least 2 feet of breathing room.

✅ Test it early
Turn your thermostat to cool and make sure it kicks on and is blowing cold air.

✅ Check your drain line
If it clogs, it can cause water damage or shut your system down.

✅ Schedule a spring tune-up
Catching small issues now prevents expensive breakdowns in July.

The first heat wave is when HVAC companies get slammed. Beat the rush.

If you want your system checked before summer hits, message us and we’ll get you on the schedule.

HVAC tip of the month: HOW HEAT PUMPS WORK

The Basics: The Refrigeration Cycle
At its core, a heat pump uses a refrigerant—a special fluid that changes states (from liquid to gas and back) to transfer heat. The system has four main components:
• Compressor: Squeezes the refrigerant gas, raising its pressure and temperature.
• Condenser Coil: Where the hot refrigerant releases heat (either indoors or outdoors, depending on the mode).
• Expansion Valve: Lowers the refrigerant’s pressure, cooling it down.
• Evaporator Coil: Where the cool refrigerant absorbs heat.
A key feature is the reversing valve, which flips the flow direction to switch between heating and cooling.
Cooling Mode (Summer Operation)
In cooling mode, the heat pump acts just like a central air conditioner:
1. The evaporator coil inside your home absorbs heat from the indoor air, turning the refrigerant into a gas.
2. The compressor pumps this gas outside to the condenser coil.
3. There, the gas releases the absorbed heat to the outdoor air and condenses back into a liquid.
4. The liquid flows back inside through the expansion valve, cooling further, and the cycle repeats.
This pulls heat out of your house, keeping things cool and dehumidified. Heating Mode (Winter Operation)
In heating mode, the reversing valve switches things up:
1. The evaporator coil is now outside, absorbing heat from the outdoor air (even in cold weather heat pumps extract “latent” heat from the air).
2. The compressor pressurizes the refrigerant gas and sends it indoors to the condenser coil.
3. Inside, it releases that captured heat into your home’s air.
4. The refrigerant cools to a liquid, passes through the expansion valve, and heads back outside to grab more heat.
For extra cold snaps (like below 20°F, which we occasionally get in Arkansas), many systems include backup electric heat strips to supplement. If you’re considering one for your home (or upgrading), factors like your electrical panel capacity matter—feel free to share more details for tailored advice! Stay cozy.

HVAC Tip of the Month

Keep Your System Breathing:
Make sure your air filters are clean — a clogged filter can reduce airflow by up to 30%, causing your furnace to run longer and work harder. Replace or clean filters every 30 days during peak heating months.
