Electricity costs in Arizona aren’t rising by accident—they’re being shaped by long-term changes in demand, extreme heat, and grid infrastructure upgrades.

While the system is still reliable, the way energy is priced and delivered is evolving, and that has real implications for homeowners thinking about long-term costs and stability.

We put together a clear breakdown of what’s happening, why it matters, and how solar + battery storage fits into the bigger picture of Arizona’s energy future.

Affordable housing and solar energy should go hand in hand. Here in Flagstaff, they are.

Rooftop Solar is proud to continue our partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Arizona, installing solar on starter homes at Timber Sky.

We started with the Butler Avenue pilot, and now we’ve completed 10 homes in the first phase at Timber Sky.

Each home is designed with a right-sized solar system to help reduce utility bills and support long-term affordability.

Affordable housing isn’t just about buying a home, it’s about being able to live in it.

Starting in 2022 Rooftop Solar partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Arizona to provide solar on the initial starter homes on Butler Ave.

We're so proud to continue that collaboration by installing solar for their new project at Timber Sky. This week the Rooftop Solar installation team has been out working in the tiny home village on west Route 66.

These mighty little systems will produce 11-12kWh on average per-day and will allow new affordable-home-owners to avoid escalating energy costs and secure their energy futures!

We applaud Habitat for Humanity's commitment to making housing affordable in our community, and Rooftop Solar is excited to partner with them on this important community project.

APS is now implementing wildfire-related power shutoffs in Northern Arizona, and that means more unexpected outages for homeowners.

These Public Safety Power Shutoffs are designed to prevent fires during extreme weather, but they also highlight a growing reality: the grid is no longer fully reliable year-round.

Solar + battery storage systems give homeowners something different:

⚡ Power during outages
⚡ Energy independence when the grid goes down
⚡ Peace of mind during wildfire season

Energy resiliency isn’t a luxury anymore. It's becoming the new normal in Arizona.

See how homeowners are preparing for the next outage with solar + storage.

If your electric bill feels less predictable lately, it’s not just you.

There are several things happening at once in Arizona:

• Utility rates continuing to rise
• Policy direction shifting at SRP
• Global energy pressures affecting local pricing
• More homeowners turning to solar for stability

In our latest newsletter, we break it all down—from the truth about energy subsidies to real-world results from a Flagstaff solar install.

This isn’t one headline—it’s the full picture of where energy is heading and what it means for homeowners.

If you’re thinking about solar or just trying to understand your costs, this is worth your time.

Most people assume solar gets unfair government support. It’s a reasonable assumption, but it’s incomplete. When you look at the full picture, fossil fuels have received decades of subsidies that still shape today’s energy market. And even more surprising: Even without subsidies, solar is alre...

What if your car ran on energy produced at your own home and cost almost nothing to fuel?

In Arizona, pairing rooftop solar with an electric vehicle can reduce your fuel cost to pennies per mile, compared to what most drivers spend on gasoline.

This is more than a vehicle upgrade. It changes how you manage long-term transportation costs.

- No gas stations or fuel stops
- Protection from rising gas prices
- Lower cost per mile over time
- Greater control over your energy

Most homeowners are surprised to learn that you do not need a large solar system to power an EV. In many cases, a small system expansion can offset your annual driving.

See how EV charging with solar works and what it could mean for your home:

If you already have solar or are planning to buy an EV, this is one of the most important cost comparisons to understand.

Gas prices are back above $4. See how charging your EV with solar in Arizona cuts fuel costs and accelerates the return on your car AND solar system.

Rising Electricity Rates in Arizona Quietly Make Solar More Valuable

or... Why Do Solar Owners Cheer When APS Rates Increase?
(Yep, you read that right.)

When APS announces another rate increase, most Arizona homeowners feel it immediately: frustration, confusion, and higher monthly bills. But one group is reacting very differently: solar owners. Not because they like higher prices, but because they understand something most people don’t:

When electricity gets more expensive, solar becomes more valuable, automatically.

Every rate hike increases the value of the energy their system produces. Their savings grow without changing a thing. In fact, ask most solar owners what they think when rates go up, and you’ll hear the same answer:

“I just wish I had installed more solar.”

That insight is playing out in real time. Rooftop Solar’s fastest-growing segment right now isn’t first-time buyers, it’s returning customers adding more panels and battery storage.

So what do they know that non-solar homeowners don’t? They’ve already experienced rising electricity prices and are doubling down before the next increase hits. It's the confidence of knowing you made good choices. As rates continue climbing, the gap between solar owners and everyone else widens. The question isn’t just what electricity costs today, it’s what it will cost next year… and the year after that.

Read the full breakdown to see how rising APS rates are changing the math on solar and why waiting could cost more.

Learn how APS rate increases impact solar savings, shorten payback periods, and why now is the best time to go solar with battery storage.
