This log home in Dewey, Arizona is set for renovation. Mike Collins constructed this three-level residence in 1997, and it now necessitates comprehensive restoration. Starting at the north wall, a four-level scaffolding framework is necessary to reach the top from the bottom course. The first phase of work involved repairing the soffit and fascia, previously compromised by bat and bee activity. The creatures have been removed, and the property has been sealed. Mike had to create blocking to attach the scaffolding to the log walls to provide stabilization. We are using ground up corn cob to remove the old stain and any rot. This is a REAL LOG HOMES log package.

The log lodge restoration in Page Springs, Az is coming along wonderfully! We use ground corn cob to remove the old finish and any rot then lightly sand, followed by a base coat, 2 layers of stain and a UV protective top coat. (& exclusivelyuse Sashco Log Homes products) D.A.Ranch Estate Vineyards

We often get questions about how to properly “flash” a rimboard before attaching a deck ledger. We NEVER use metal because when you put a hole in metal it doesn’t seal and can allow for water seepage. We use a self-adhesive flashing (multiple brands and sizes) to create a self-healing waterproof barrier. Shoot us a message if you have a specific question. This log home required log replacement and new blocking and rim board due to snow and water damage that rotted the logs.

Well Dang! The homeowner was not expecting this when he hired us to remove and re-stain his log home. Year’s of snow and weather have taken their toll on these two courses of logs, and even into the floor joists and plywood flooring. We will need to replace the bracing and stabilize the floor and log walls and then replace portions of the first course of logs and repair portions of the second course. Because it is just portions, it is not considered a structural repair. Take note: gutters are not the end-all, but they certainly would have helped in this situation. How are your logs?

We like big logs and we cannot lie! These beauties have a 5-foot circumference. They are in pretty good shape considering the Arizona sun exposure. You can see water damage on the bases due to improper flashing and sealing. We can fix this!

The custom interior stair and loft railing is so perfect! Strong, rustic yet not overwhelming to distract from the beauty of the logs from REAL LOG HOMES. Beautiful choice Dave & Catherine and, as always, extraordinary craftsmanship Mike, even with a completely torn shoulder. Finishing this log home truly has been a “painful” yet fulfilling expedience.
