No matter the conditions, safety on the water always comes first. Here’s a quick checklist to go through before every trip:

✅ Make sure there’s a U.S. Coast Guard-approved PFD for every person on board

✅ Attach your engine cut-off switch (kill switch) to the driver

✅ Check weather and water conditions before heading out

✅ Ensure navigation lights and electronics are working

✅ Keep required safety gear (fire extinguisher, horn/whistle, throw cushion) accessible

✅ Let someone know your float plan before you leave

When the smallmouth bite is tough, get finessey. Lighter line, smaller bait, and more natural colors. Bronze backs can be picky, but a finesse presentation around rocks and current usually gets them to commit.
