Ever notice that galvanized nuts sometimes feel tight on galvanized bolts?

That’s not a defect — it’s by design.

Hot-dip galvanizing adds a thick protective zinc coating, which slightly increases thread dimensions. To compensate, manufacturers tap galvanized nuts oversized, so once the coating is applied, the fit becomes correct.
