We’ve reached the final feature of Wall Wisdom Month! 🛠️

Last up: Fish Scale texture. 🐟

Fish Scale texture is known for its layered, fan-like appearance created by dragging a comb tool through wet drywall compound to form repeating half-circle patterns.

This decorative texture adds movement and visual detail, making it one of the more artistic and eye-catching finishes used on walls and ceilings.

Because of its unique pattern and spacing, repairs require careful craftsmanship to keep the texture looking consistent and seamless.

Wall Wisdom Month is still going strong! 🛠️

Today we’re talking about Slap Brush texture.

This texture is created by pressing a drywall brush into compound and “slapping” it onto the surface to create a bold, ridged pattern with lots of movement and dimension.

Slap Brush texture is commonly used on ceilings and can help add visual interest while also helping hide minor imperfections.

Because every brush pattern is unique, matching this texture correctly takes skill and attention to detail — especially after a repair.

Wall Wisdom Month rolls on! 🛠️

Today’s texture spotlight: Knockdown texture.

Knockdown texture is created by applying texture to the wall or ceiling and then “knocking it down” with a drywall knife to create a flattened, mottled appearance.

The result? A textured look with more depth and movement than smoother finishes — making it a popular choice for both walls and ceilings.

Because of its unique pattern, knockdown texture can be tricky to match correctly after a repair. That’s where expert texture blending makes all the difference.

Wall Wisdom Month continues! 🛠️

Next up: Orange Peel texture. 🍊

Orange peel texture is known for its subtle bumps and soft, cracked appearance — similar to the surface of an orange peel. It can range from fine to heavy variations depending on the look homeowners want.

This texture is one of the most common wall finishes found in homes today because it adds dimension while still keeping a clean, modern appearance.

We’re officially declaring June as Wall Wisdom Month! 🛠️

Throughout the month, The Patch Boys will be breaking down different wall and ceiling texture types — starting with one of the most recognizable: Popcorn texture.

Known for its rounded, bumpy appearance (just like pieces of popcorn 🍿), this ceiling texture became especially popular in homes built from the 1950s through the 1980s.

Today, many homeowners choose to update or remove popcorn ceilings for a more modern look — but proper repair and texture matching still matter when maintaining existing surfaces.

Stay tuned as we continue sharing more wall wisdom all month long!
