At Hoag Hospital, the goal wasn’t to create a traditional wall—it was to design an outdoor memorial display that felt like a natural part of the Lucy Curci Memorial Garden.

The challenge was balancing a few important things:
• Honor over 800 individuals (and growing)
• Allow for ongoing updates without rebuilding the system
• Withstand outdoor coastal conditions
• And most importantly—keep the focus on the garden, not the display

The result is a subtle, architectural memorial that blends into the environment while still meaningfully honoring those remembered.

It’s a great example of how a memorial display can support both experience and long-term stewardship—without overpowering the space.
