We are often told "A Handyman is lower in cost". Let us clarify what a "Handyman" can perform in the construction field legally:
Work a Handyman Can Perform in the State of Florida Without a License:
- Patch Cracks & Holes in - Existing Concrete
- Caulking
- Painting
- Tile cleaning and repair
- Exterior and Interior Cleaning
- Yard Maintenance
- Pressure Cleaning
- Cleaning Gutters
- Laying carpet, vinyl, wood, tile or laminate flooring
- Replace interior doors & trim
Electrical Allowed:
- Replace light bulbs with like type and wattage
- Replace fuses of same size only
Plumbing Allowed:
- Repair window A/C units
- Replace disposable air filters
- Replace exhaust vent piping for clothes dryer only
Anything anymore that that listed above requires a State of Florida Contractor Licenses via DBPR.
This would mean you are using a unlicensed contractor if you have them:
They cannot do any work that requires a license, such as construction (i.e. building, remodel, demolishing, foundation work, roofing, framing, drywall, glass,etc), plumbing work, electrical or HVAC
Make sure you know who you are hiring - an occupational license (chrck this - a handyman will say NO CONSTRUCTION ALLOWED) and Sunbiz registration does not make you a contractor. DBPR Does!
