There’s repairing a tile roof

Leak Busters recycles the metal roofing and tile we tear off whenever possible. Asphalt shingles, however, often end up in Florida landfills—even though shingle recycling programs exist in other parts of the country.

If sustainability matters when choosing a roofing system, what happens after its useful life is worth considering too.

Not every roof coating is a solution. Sometimes it can make an existing problem harder to see. 🚹

Coatings can be useful in the right application, but the condition of the existing roof matters. If underlying damage, moisture, seams or other problem areas aren't properly addressed first, covering everything isn't necessarily fixing it.

This is exactly why we inspect the roof system underneath before recommending a solution.

If you're considering coating an older flat roof, make sure you know what you're covering first.

But there’s a bigger story behind it.

Richie Colletti credits his years of actually working in the field—installing roofs alongside the crews—with earning the respect of the people he works with today.

So when a huge warehouse project needed extra manpower on a Sunday, he jokingly told his lead guy, “I don’t know
 50.”

He got 50.

They put new shingles over THIS. 😳

The decking underneath was so compromised that some of the fasteners could be pulled out by hand. Covering damaged wood with new shingles doesn’t make the problem disappear — it just hides it.

Your roof is only as strong as what’s underneath it. This is why the details you can’t see matter just as much as the ones you can.

From the ground, look for missing or lifted shingles, displaced tile, damaged ridge caps, soffit or fascia damage, and any new signs of moisture inside your home.

⚠ Please don’t climb onto your roof to check it yourself. Wind damage isn’t always obvious, and a damaged roof may not be safe to walk on.
