How do we assemble power integrated distribution assemblies?

It starts out with our NPI process, where we work with our customers plan for individual components, process control, and quality inspections.

Despite being a smaller manufacturing company, we can take on high-volume built-to-print orders. One of the advantages of being a smaller company is that we're able to pivot for our customers and create a strong DFM for each project type we take on as needed.

With dedicated working cells, we have the capability to devote areas within our ship for repeat high-volume orders.

CUSTOM TURNKEY INTEGRATED POWER DISTRIBUTION ASSEMBLIES

We make custom assemblies and subassemblies for OEMs, including battery distribution systems with rigid busbar. Our vertical integration allows us to manufacture integrated power distribution assemblies with value-added manufacturing practices.

We may use soldering, welding, brazing, wiring, insulation, purchase components as well as in-house fabrication, laser cutting, and plating.

On request, we’re able to offer:
1. Small batch samples + prototypes
2. Custom FAI's and PPAP's on request
3. Hi-pot testing

NPI goes hand in hand with our sales team. From print to high-volume, we're able to manufacture and ship prototypes.

What are PEM® fasteners?

Penn Engineering developed a line of PEM® brand fasteners, known for their self-clinching design, colloquially known as PEM fasteners. Self-clinching hardware is usually threaded, or otherwise engineered with special recesses as to displace the host metal to lock it into position.

Usually, PEM hardware is best used for thin sheet metal, however there are other hardware and assembly options for thicker metals as well.

We offer a wide variety of hardware that can be installed, including the entirety of the PEM catalogue as well as various riveting capabilities, and other manual insertion. We commonly install flush head and high strength studs in a variety of materials. Rivet types include solid, blind and semi tubular roll.

CUSTOM ASSEMBLIES FOR CONNECTORS + POWER COMPONENTS

SPF America does everything from fabrication to finishing to assembly. One of our most important offerings is our wide reaching vertical integration that allows for highly competitive pricing and reduced lead times. Our post fabrication assembly practices are extensive, ranging from tapping and hardware insertion, welding, to electrical assembly. We have the ability to quote and process assemblies with multiple parts and multiple materials in-house.

We’re able to install threads and threaded inserts directly in product. Depending on complexity of the part, tapping can be automated or manually processed. If material is too soft for thread assemblies, SPF uses a range of self-clinching fasteners that are also available for installation.

We offer a wide variety of hardware that can be installed, including PEM fasteners and various riveting capabilities. We commonly install flush head and high strength studs in steel and stainless along with an assortment of swage nut. Rivet types include solid, blind and semi tubular roll.

Dielectric epoxy powder coatings are a finishing option that helps to prevent electrical leaks as well as protect the base metal or finishing underneath from environmental conditions like moisture, chemicals, or abrasion.

INSULATION + DIELECTRIC COATINGS

On top of high-quality primary processes, we also offer a wide range of secondary processes, including heat shrink insulation, printing, marking, and epoxy powder coating.

Our dielectric powder coatings may be applied to your parts, with numerous color options available. Material, voltage ratings, coating thickness, and color options vary dependent on project requirements. Parts can be sandblasted to prepare for the coating process. We also run pass/fail high potential (hi-pot) testing to your required specifications, to ensure high quality connection.

Our main machines are bar processing machines... aka, busbar machines, consisting of the Boschert CU Profi series and the VaskiPUNCH series.

We do complement these cutting capabilities with a 12kw fiber laser, as well as CNC 5-axis machining centers... but our bar processors are our bread and butter.
