Mini-splits continue to grow in popularity, and for good reason – they offer the efficient, effective alternative to traditional climate control options and are a great fit for any home. Not familiar with mini-splits? Allow us to introduce you!

Mini-splits are ductless heating-and-cooling systems that consist of two main parts: a single outdoor compressor/condenser and one or more indoor air-handling units (“air handlers”). Unlike central air, which forces conditioned air through a network of ducts, mini-splits deliver air directly to individual rooms or “zones”, thus eliminating the energy loss that occurs in standard ducted systems.

Because they are ductless, mini-splits can be installed quickly with minimal disruption to your home’s layout. In this video, Keith and Chandler are arranging the line sets that run between the outdoor and indoor units, taking great care to ensure to accommodate the homeowner’s preferences for aesthetics along the way. The other night, as heavy rains tore through eastern PA, a customer saw a big flash and heard a loud zap-bang from the outdoor A/C unit. The A/C was still running, but they were concerned about safety and “bigger issues” so they gave us a call. We had Ray on the scene, first thing in the morning, to inspect and diagnose. 🔧

Turns out rodents - mice, or perhaps even a chipmunk - had chewed through some of the wire coverings and the exposed wires got wet in the downpour, which was what caused the flash-bang. Ray changed out the wires, tested everything, and gave the all-clear, leaving her with peace of mind and A/C running smooth! 👍
