How to Prepare Your HVAC for Fall:

With cooler weather on the horizon, it’s easy to forget that your HVAC system, which worked hard all summer, needs attention before winter hits.
The first step is scheduling a professional fall maintenance check. If your summer cooling season was hard on your system, now is the time to address any needed repairs.

A good Fall Preventive Maintenance plan will focus attention on your outdoor units: debris, leaves, dirt, and grass, can accumulate around the outdoor unit, obstructing airflow and affecting performance. Before the colder weather sets in, clear away any debris and ensure the area around the unit is clean and free from obstructions.

Replace your furnace filter after the summer. It is also imperative to test carbon monoxide detectors, especially in the winter when heating systems are operating and windows are often closed.

You may consider upgrading your thermostat to a programmable or smart model to help regulate temperatures more efficiently throughout the day. This can reduce energy consumption and save on heating costs during the colder months.

Finally, insulating your ductwork can also help prevent heat loss and improve overall efficiency. Leaky or poorly insulated ducts can cause heated air to escape, forcing your system to work harder to maintain the desired temperature.

Mother Nature is so unpredictable, especially in the Midwest. I suppose we could call this "job security". The Ups and Downs of weather patterns can wear heavily on heating and A/C units. Preventive Maintenance programs keep equipment in shape for these unpredictable (or is it predictable) weather patterns.

The Transplant: out with the old and in with the new.

In the mechanical world, one needs to adapt and join together the old with a replacement part ~ the "new". And that is not always easy. It is not just textbook whereby we can cut out the non-functioning part and replace it with a stock item or exact duplicate.

Instead, it takes time to assess the entire system, determine how the existing system will assimilate the new part and often there is some on-site adjusting and retrofitting to make the new part work in unity and harmony with the rest of the system.

Today's reminder: "If it were that easy, everyone would be doing it"

In the commercial HVAC world, equipment selection is definitely important for the application and facility. However, equally important is the journey to get the conditioned air to the right spot.

Our recent project for a production facility involves crafting ductwork from an external A/C unit to deep within the building in order to provide the most ideal environment for the manufacturing team.
