Integrated Vehicle Health Management systems are installed on helicopters, other air vehicles, or even ground vehicles. The systems usually include accelerometers and other sensors for performing mechanical diagnostics on vehicle drive and propulsion systems. Previously known as Health and Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS) for commercial helicopters, or Conditioned Based Maintenance (CBM) systems for monitoring Military helicopters and vehicles. The initial systems were designed and installed on comercial helicopters in the mid 1980s'. Ivhm Inc. provides consulting services for these technologies.
