We have received numerous inquiries regarding the identification of heat pumps in residential settings. It is noteworthy that homes with gas typically do not utilize electric furnaces, although exceptions may exist. Furthermore, an all-electric setup does not automatically imply the presence of a heat pump, as a straight cool condenser unit may be installed outdoors. To accurately determine the type of system in place, we recommend adjusting your thermostat upward by approximately 3 degrees and allowing five minutes to pass before checking the outdoor unit to see if it is running. If the system is running, it indicates the presence of a heat pump, and necessary precautions should be taken. For confirmation, you can also take a photo of the tag on the outside unit, which should display similar information to the example provided, and send it to us. Each brand's tag will have a similar format but may differ in design. If preferred, you can also contact us directly, and we can guide you through the process over the phone. Please note that some systems may not have emergency heat settings on their thermostats; in such cases, it might be located on the zone board if you have a multi-thermostat setup. We are more than happy to assist you in converting your system to emergency heat. You can reach us at 817-350-9150 or send a private message or text. Most inquiries can be handled over the phone. We will be running service on an emergency only basis over the weekend. So if anyone has only one unit and no heat at all, we are happy to assist you.
