Scientists at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center have discovered a new factor in regulating phenylalanine metabolism, which will guide researchers in preventing PKU.

New factor in regulating phenylalanine metabolism may assist researchers in preventing the inherited metabolic disorder phenylketonuria (PKU).

A ubiquitous neurotransmitter that carries signals between brain cells, dopamine, among its many functions, is involved in multiple aspects of cognitive processing. University of California San Diego researchers recently set out to investigate less understood aspects related to spontaneous impulses of dopamine.

Their results, published July 23 in the journal Current Biology, have shown that mice can willfully manipulate these random dopamine pulses.

Study reveals mice can learn to manipulate random dopamine impulses for reward.

In old mice infected with a SARS-CoV-2–related virus, treatment with senolytics to reduce the senolytic cell burden reduced mortality and increased antiviral antibodies.

Cellular senescence is a state elicited in response to stress signals and is associated with a damaging secretory phenotype. The number of senescent cells increases with advanced age and this in turn drives age-related diseases. Camell et al. show that senescent cells have an amplified inflammatory....

A UCLA-led study comparing brain cells known as astrocytes in humans and mice found that mouse astrocytes are more resilient to oxidative stress, a damaging imbalance that is a mechanism behind many neurological disorders.

Research brief: Mouse astrocytes, often used in research on human neurological disorders, differ in significant ways from the human version.

Mice with tiny devices implanted in their brains showed a great affinity to one another in an experiment when the signals were synchronized.

The study, a tour de force in bioengineering, comes after two decades of research on brain-to-brain synchrony in people.

Scientists at Cornell University report that they have developed a method for studying the neuroscience of motor control in mice—by focusing on a mouse’s tongue when it licks a waterspout.

Research opens door for revealing mysteries of how the motor cortex works, and understanding the neural basis of related disorders like Parkinson's disease.

Mutations associated with autism can inhibit the release of the bonding hormone oxytocin and cause abnormal social behavior in mice.

A rare mutation in the Caps2 gene, which encodes a protein that regulates the release of brain chemicals called neurotransmitters, has also been linked with autism spectrum disorders. Now, researchers at the Tokyo University of Science report that Caps2 mutations in mice limit the release of oxytoci...
