Frankfort, Kentucky (August 13, 2026) – HMB Professional Engineers, a Kentucky‐based engineering firm, is thrilled to announce the addition of CARMAN, an award-winning landscape architecture, urban planning, and civil engineering firm headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky to the HMB team. This addition significantly expands HMB's site design and landscape architecture capabilities while strengthening its position in Kentucky and across the Southeast. Together, the firms will offer clients a more comprehensive suite of planning, engineering, landscape architecture, and infrastructure services.

"It is said that opportunities don't just happen, they are created. Bringing together two highly respected Kentucky firms like HMB and CARMAN creates exciting opportunities for our employees, our clients, and the communities we serve," said Rob Dowler, President of HMB Professional Engineers. "CARMAN has built an outstanding reputation over more than four decades for thoughtful, award-winning landscape architecture and site design. Their expertise perfectly complements HMB's engineering capabilities, allowing us to deliver even greater value through integrated planning, design, and infrastructure solutions."

Founded in 1980, CARMAN has earned recognition throughout the region for creating sustainable, functional, and visually compelling environments through landscape architecture, urban planning, and civil engineering. The firm serves public and private clients across higher education, healthcare, parks and recreation, civic spaces, mixed-use developments, and urban revitalization projects. Headquartered in Lexington with an additional office in Louisville, CARMAN has become one of Kentucky's premier landscape architecture firms, known for collaborative design and innovative solutions that enhance communities.

"Joining HMB represents an exciting new chapter for our team," said John Carman, PLA, FASLA, Senior Principal of CARMAN. "Our firms share a commitment to exceptional client service, technical excellence, and improving the communities we serve. By combining CARMAN's design expertise with HMB's broad engineering capabilities, we can offer expanded services, greater resources, and even more opportunities for our employees and clients while continuing the design philosophy that has defined CARMAN for more than 45 years."

Founded in 1979, HMB is a leading provider of engineering services to state and local agencies, municipalities, utilities, educational institutions, and private-sector clients throughout the Southeast. The addition of CARMAN significantly expands HMB's capabilities in landscape architecture, urban design, master planning, site planning, streetscape design, and placemaking, creating a fully integrated multidisciplinary design practice capable of delivering comprehensive infrastructure and community development solutions.

"This acquisition represents a natural evolution for HMB," said Brad Gregory, Principal-In-Charge of Site Development and Operations at HMB. "CARMAN has established itself as one of Kentucky's premier landscape architecture firms through decades of exceptional work and client relationships. Together, we'll continue building on that legacy while providing clients with expanded expertise across transportation, water resources, civil engineering, landscape architecture, and planning."
HMB is part of the Trilon Group, a family of infrastructure consulting firms focused on growing capabilities through investments in talent, technology, and strategic partnerships. Trilon is building one of North America's premier infrastructure consulting organizations by bringing together outstanding engineering, planning, environmental, and design firms.

Together, HMB and CARMAN are building a multidisciplinary design practice where engineering, landscape architecture, planning, and environmental stewardship work seamlessly together. By combining strengths, we are investing in our people, expanding opportunities for our clients, and creating places and infrastructure that will serve communities for generations to come.

Project Spotlight!
SR-52 & SR-153 Roundabout – Geneva County, Alabama

Great projects deserve great views, and these aerial photos certainly deliver! A big thank you to Brad Hammock for capturing and sharing these outstanding perspectives of the SR-52 and SR-153 Roundabout in Geneva County, west of Samson, Alabama.

This single-lane roundabout was designed to enhance safety, improve traffic operations, and provide a more efficient intersection for the traveling public. Seeing the project from above offers a unique appreciation for the planning, engineering, and construction that went into making it a reality.

We're proud to showcase another project that reflects HMB's commitment to delivering innovative transportation solutions that improve the communities we serve.
