Ever heard Apples to Apples?

This phrase is used a lot to compare contractors and their estimates during the shopping phase of a project. Looking at what is included- materials, scope of work, reviews, timelines and availability. These are great things to compare but you need to try to remember to read between the lines. *some just scroll down to price and that’s all they see 🤦🏼‍♂️

Here’s the truth about home improvement “Pros” who want you to compare apples to apples when reviewing their free estimate.

Apples are all the same and just don’t deliver. They show up late. They make promises but feed you excuses. Always want more money then ghost you. Leave your house looking like a bomb went off and your expectations unfulfilled. Maybe you’ve hired a few bad apples and experienced what I’m describing.

Well.... I don’t sell apples. I sell oranges. Im here to offer something different. I am not the typical home improvement contractor and don’t ever want to be.

Oranges. Expand on your great original ideas. Show up on time and communicate well. Do their best to stay on budget. Focus on great details. They over deliver with their finished product and experience.

Next time you shop for a home project first decide do you want an apple or an orange.

What does your powder room look like?

Powder rooms are a real flex. They are a room that most of your guest will see so why not make it awesome. Also they are a small room so the visual impact takes less of an investment to add the details that make it stand out.

What’s your opinion? Cheap hardware vs Expensive.

Most people want the look without the cost but there are the few who want both. Door and drawer hardware can range from $20 for a 10 pack or $20+ each. My suggestion is to consider the location and use of the space. Anything high traffic and visibility I would recommend to at least split the difference and get a better quality product. Where it can be tempting to shave on the budget a more premium handle is worth what it cost when you feel the difference in weight verse a cheap hollow aluminum version. Traffic is the thing many don’t consider. Sure, it may look decent from a far but will it last. I’ve seen dozens of broken k***s and pulls in my career where the owners just live with it because they can’t replace it. So if you do go the cheap route buy extras. Not only for down the road but also on install day. Yes those cheap pulls you get what you pay for and sometimes the threads to screw them in were not machined well and strip. Again, you get what you pay for.

When in doubt try before you buy, or return. See the difference in hand to help you make that choice of investment.
