It was operated as a commercial abrasive mine. The beautiful purplish pink sapphires were an added bonus! For years now The mine has been operated as a dig your own dirt sapphire mine. Mason's Sapphire Mine is one of only 3 mines in Macon county offering native sapphire dirt. Just last year a 129.5 carat sapphire was found by Mike Taylor from Indiana! On an average day customers find between 10 and 60 total carats. Adults $35 ages 6-11 $15, 5 and under mine for free! Primitive camping is available for only $25 a night. All campsite prices include 2 adults, additional adults are $5 each. Children are free! Sorry but there is no water hookups or dumping station available at this time. Cold drinks, snacks, ice cream, lunch items, t shirts, souvenirs, fire wood etc... available in mine store.

Hey miners just a reminder we will be open today & tomorrow but Saturday the 18th I will be on main street Franklin at RUBY CITY GEMS where you can come see me there an do some gem mining... Then back to Thursday thru sat until the first of November that will be the last day of the season... So come on out an let's get the bell ringer before end of season
