Just wrapped up a furnace replacement for a homeowner who had an older 80% unit with a severely rusted flue pipe. Over time, that rust created a serious risk, allowing carbon monoxide gases to potentially leak back into the home.
β οΈ The scary part? The system was still running.
This is exactly why waiting until your furnace completely breaks down isnβt always the safest (or smartest) move. As systems age, internal components can deteriorate, especially venting, and that can turn into a health and safety hazard, not just a comfort issue.
π₯ What to watch for:
β’ Rust or corrosion on your furnace or flue pipe
β’ Unusual smells or poor draft
β’ Older systems (10β15+ years)
