It has been a very busy past couple of weeks for Team 686, Bovine Intervention, as we approach the FIRST Championship. Looking back to early April, the team competed in the FIRST Chesapeake District Championship—an event that ultimately secured our qualification for the FIRST Championship.
The District Championship was held at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia, where 54 teams from across the Chesapeake District (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) competed. Entering the competition Bovine Intervention ranked 29th overall, Team 686 knew there was significant work to do to reach championship qualification.
The three-day event brought both challenges and success. On day one, the team faced several robot issues that impacted our ranking. However, after day two and into day three, performance improved significantly. Bovine Intervention climbed to 5th place before alliance selection—an impressive comeback and a testament to the team’s perseverance. Overall, the robot performed well, meeting expectations in both autonomous and tele-operated periods, and the team gained valuable experience along the way.
During alliance selection, Team 686 was invited by Team 1908, ShoreBots, to join the 3rd Alliance alongside Team 614, NightHawks. The alliance performed strongly, winning a few matches in both the upper and lower brackets, scoring consistently, and delivering exciting performances for spectators in the stands and online.
We extend our thanks to Team 1908 for the invitation and to Team 614 for their partnership in forming a strong alliance. We also thank all the teams in the Chesapeake District for their innovation and competitive spirit—you inspired us, and we learned a great deal from watching your robots in action.
At the conclusion of the event, Team 686, Bovine Intervention, finished 14th overall in the Chesapeake District rankings for the 2026 season. This result earned us an invitation to compete at the FIRST Championship in Houston, Texas. We are proud to represent Chesapeake in the Milstein Division alongside other outstanding teams from our district competing across the remaining divisions.
