Poudre School District has more than 10,000 unfilled seats right now. That's roughly a third of its total capacity.
It's not the only Front Range district facing this. Boulder Valley, Adams 12, and others are weighing school closures and consolidations as enrollment keeps dropping faster than anyone projected.
For a construction company that's built and renovated K-12 facilities across Colorado for decades, this is a real shift worth paying attention to. The next wave of school construction in the Front Range may look less like new campuses and more like consolidation projects: combining programs, repurposing underused space, and right-sizing buildings for a smaller student population.
That's a different kind of project than a ground-up school build, and it requires a different kind of planning. Occupied-building renovation, phased construction around active programs, and space reconfiguration all take a level of coordination that new construction doesn't.
Curious how other Colorado contractors and district facilities teams are thinking about this shift.
