Beaver Ridge Wind Project

Beaver Ridge Wind Project Beaver Ridge Wind is a 4.5 megawatt (MW), 3-turbine wind project located in Freedom, Maine.

Beaver Ridge Wind was commissioned in November 2008 as the second operational wind farm in Maine and the first in the Central Maine Power service territory. It is the first wind farm in New England financed by a single individual, Jay Cashman. Beaver Ridge Wind's three General Electric 1.5 MW wind turbines produce approximately 12 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of emission-free electricity each year

. That is enough to power about 2,000 homes (based on 500 kWh per home per month) and reduces the amount of CO2 emissions by the equivalent of almost 630 thousand gallons of gasoline.

Meet Our 2015 Patriot Renewables Scholarship Winner: Ryanne Dailey

Ryanne, a junior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester, MA) studying chemical engineering was presented with our $5000 annual scholarship this past summer. She recently visited our Saddleback Ridge Wind Project and tells us why she is interested in renewable energy and sustainability:

“I became interested in sustainability and environmental awareness my freshman year of college when I took a class about the sustainability of the food supplies of the United States and the world. That class gave me a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving the environment. No matter what direction my career as an engineer takes, I’m interested in making sure my work has a positive environmental impact. I think that moving toward a sustainable future and taking care of the environment are responsibilities that fall on everyone and I look forward to being able to help with these important issues through engineering.”
