During the summer, many homeowners find that their homes still feel uncomfortable even when the thermostat shows a reasonable temperature. In many cases, humidity plays a major role in how cool (or warm) a space actually feels.

One way to improve indoor comfort is to find solutions to manage indoor humidity. If the air is too humid, it can make your home feel warmer than it actually is. Using a portable or whole-home dehumidifier can help remove that moisture, allowing the space to feel cooler and more comfortable. Addressing humidity levels can often improve comfort and even help your cooling system operate more efficiently during the warmer months.

As summer temperatures climb, it’s common for homeowners to notice their air conditioner running longer, energy bills increasing, and certain rooms struggling to stay cool. When comfort becomes harder to maintain, the solution often involves more than simply adjusting the thermostat.

Reducing heat before it enters your home can make a noticeable difference and help your HVAC system work more efficiently.

Here are a couple of simple strategies to consider:

🔹 Block heat before it enters - Solar heat gain through windows and roofing materials is a main contributor to rising indoor temperatures. It’s a best practice to close blinds and curtains during the hottest parts of the day, especially on west- and south-facing windows.

🔹 Shade exterior surfaces - Direct sunlight on exterior walls, patios, and surrounding hard surfaces increases heat absorption around the home. Planting trees or installing shade structures on the sun-facing side of your property can help regulate surface temperatures.

Cue the fireworks, fire up the grill, and get ready for what might be the most ambitious birthday cake of all time. 🎂

America turns 250 this year, which means 250 candles on the cake … so someone should probably alert the fire department.

However you’re celebrating the Fourth of July, we hope it’s filled with great food, good company, and a sky full of fireworks.
