A great built-in is about more than just adding shelves; it’s about engineering your daily routine.

When we design custom storage at Goodmok and Sons, we look at the "anatomy" of the space. For a mudroom, that means integrated charging stations for your gear, specific heights for boots versus shoes, and hidden compartments for the things you want out of sight. In an office, it’s about cable management that actually works and drawer depths that fit your specific files.

It’s the fine finish carpentry details: like mitered returns and seamless transitions: that turn a storage unit into a permanent part of your home’s architecture.

Are you ready to stop organizing around your furniture and start building for your lifestyle?

Ever wonder why some houses just feel... quieter? It’s not just luck: it’s the science of what’s hidden under your feet.

At Goodmok and Sons, we’re all about the details you can’t see but definitely notice. When we’re building or renovating multi-story homes, we pay close attention to sound dampening between floors. Nobody wants to hear every footstep or conversation from the room above.

To keep things peaceful, we use a combination of acoustic mats and mass loaded vinyl (MLV). Think of MLV as a heavy, flexible shield that adds serious mass to the floor assembly, blocking sound waves in their tracks. Pair that with a high-quality acoustic mat to decouple the finished floor from the structure, and you’ve got a home that feels solid and serene.

It’s these technical layers that separate a standard build from a fine custom home. Whether it’s a master suite above a living room or a dedicated home office, we make sure the only thing you’re hearing is the peace and quiet you deserve.

Planning a project where silence is golden? Let’s talk about how we can build it right from the ground up.

Ever feel like a bulky metal vent is crashing the party in your beautifully designed room? At Goodmok and Sons, we believe that every detail matters, including the ones you shouldn't have to see.

One of our favorite ways to level up a space is through seamless HVAC integration. Instead of cutting a hole for a standard register, we design custom millwork that hides vents right inside the cabinetry or baseboards. Whether it's a decorative slatted toe-kick or a recessed wood vent that matches your floor perfectly, we make sure the air flows without breaking the aesthetic.

It’s these fine finish details that turn a standard build into a custom home. If you’re planning a renovation and want to hide the "ugly" parts of home mechanicals, we’d love to help you plan it out.

Ever notice how some modern spaces just feel... cleaner? Often, it’s not what’s there, but what isn’t.

At Goodmok and Sons, we love the "Shadow Line" reveal. Instead of the usual chunky baseboards, we use Z-beads to create a tiny, recessed gap between the wall and the floor. This architectural reveal makes your walls look like they’re floating and gives any room a sleek, minimalist vibe that’s hard to beat.

It’s all in the details. While it takes a lot more precision and fine finish work than standard trim, the result is a high-end look that lets the architecture speak for itself.

Planning a modern renovation? Let’s talk about how these small reveals can make a massive impact on your home or business.

Planning on radiant heat under those new floors?

Solid hardwood is a classic choice, but when you’re dealing with modern heating systems, engineered wood is often the real MVP.

The big reason? Stability. Radiant heat causes wood to expand and contract as the temperature fluctuates. Solid planks can struggle with that movement, which often leads to gaps or cupping over time. Engineered hardwood is built in cross-grain layers, making it much more resistant to moisture and heat changes.

You get the same beautiful real-wood look with a lot more peace of mind. At Goodmok and Sons, we’re all about making sure the finish is as functional as it is fine.

Ever feel like your doors are just getting in the way?

Standard swing doors can eat up a surprising amount of floor space. At Goodmok and Sons, we’re big fans of the "magic" that a well-executed pocket door brings to a room. It’s a total game-changer for reclaiming square footage in tighter spots like laundry rooms, walk-in closets, or master baths.

But these aren't your grandma’s squeaky pocket doors. We specialize in using heavy-duty tracks and soft-close hardware. That means they glide smooth as silk and close silently every single time. It’s that blend of smart tech and fine finish carpentry that makes a house feel like a truly custom home.

Clean lines, more space, and zero door slams. What’s not to love?

It’s the little things that turn a standard house project into true craftsmanship. Ever noticed the end of a baseboard or window trim where it just stops?

In fine carpentry, we avoid "end grain" whenever possible. Leaving the raw end of a board exposed looks unfinished and: even worse: it absorbs paint and stain differently than the rest of the wood, making it stand out for all the wrong reasons.

That’s where the mitered return comes in. Instead of just cutting the board flat, we cut a tiny 45-degree piece to wrap the profile back into the wall. It creates a seamless, continuous look that flows perfectly. It takes a bit more time and a steady hand, but at Goodmok and Sons, we believe those extra minutes make all the difference in a professional finish.

Ever wonder why some wood siding looks brand new after a decade while others start to rot in just a few years?

It’s all about what’s happening behind the scenes. At Goodmok and Sons, we’re big believers in the rainscreen system. Think of it as breathing room for your house.

In most old-school builds, siding is nailed directly against the house wrap. If water gets behind the wood (and eventually, it always does), it has nowhere to go. It sits there, soaks into the wood, and starts the rot process.

By installing vertical furring strips first, we create a small air gap. This "rainscreen" allows moisture to drain out the bottom and air to circulate behind the boards, keeping everything dry and healthy. It’s a bit of extra effort during the build, but it’s the difference between a siding job that lasts 10 years and one that lasts 50.

Building it right the first time is just how we do things.

Ever wonder why some decks just look... cleaner?

The secret is in what you don’t see. For high-end decks and cladding, visible screws are officially a thing of the past. At Goodmok and Sons, we’re all about those technical details that elevate a project from "good" to "wow," and hidden fasteners are at the top of that list.

Using hidden clips or side-fastening systems does more than just look sleek. It prevents those annoying splinters that pop up around screw holes and keeps water from sitting in the wood, which means your deck lasts longer. Plus, there’s nothing like the feel of a smooth, fastener-free surface under your feet on a summer afternoon.

It’s these little finish carpentry secrets that make the difference in a custom build. Whether it’s a new deck or custom exterior cladding, we’re here to make sure the finish is flawless.

What do you prefer: the classic look or the seamless finish?

A messy job site isn't just an eyesore: it’s a safety hazard and a sign of poor craftsmanship.

At Goodmok and Sons, we live by the “Clean Site” Standard. For us, keeping things tidy isn’t just about making the space look good (though we do love a clean sweep!). It’s about efficiency, safety, and most importantly, respecting your home while we’re in it.

A clean space means fewer mistakes, faster progress, and a project that feels like a dream, not a disaster, from start to finish. When we respect the site, we respect the work.
