Good afternoon all. We try to be proactive with informing the community when there is potential for odors related to our operations and/or necessary maintenance.

This week, we will perform a full cleanout of our two digestate storage lagoons in Holton. As part of the cleaning and closure process, it will be necessary to remove the lagoon covers which may cause some odors in the area. We will complete this work as quickly as practical in an effort to limit any odors.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

As a friendly heads-up to the community, we will begin performing cleaning work on all of the tanks at FRD next week. Tank cleanouts are a necessary maintenance event, but typically only need to be performed approximately once every 5 years and ensures the tanks continue to operate as designed. There is potential for odor that could impact the immediate area around the plant while we complete this work. We are taking every measure to reduce the possibility of odors and complete the work expeditiously. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We will provide updates as we begin the work next week.

"In a statement issued on Thursday morning, Dec. 28, Generate Upcycle President Bill Caesar said that time for a solution is coming to an end. “As we have said for two years,” Caesar said, “Generate Upcycle remains committed to working with EGLE and state regulators to achieve a reasonable solution to keep the Fremont Regional Digester in operation. Unfortunately, we will have no choice but to stop accepting food waste from Michigan customers at the end of this month.”"

Who We Are

The Fremont Regional Digester plays an important role in West Michigan’s recycling community. The facility is an organics recycling and energy facility which provides a source of clean, renewable energy to more than 2,500 homes in the West Michigan community.

The Digester provides a sustainable and productive alternative for food waste that would otherwise be sent to landfills in the region and contribute to climate change. Once this waste has been used for energy production, it then supports our local agriculture industry as a nitrogen-rich, organic fertilizer for more than 1,000 acres of farmland each year.

The Fremont Regional Digester team members are your Newaygo County and West Michigan neighbors, friends and community members. We have a history of hard work, ingenuity and a commitment to taking an active role in our region’s success and sustainability, both environmentally and economically. Beyond our core commitment to environmental stewardship through recycling, landfill diversion and renewable energy production, our community fund is also committed to ensuring the success of all our neighbors. We do this by supporting community organizations and programs focused on agriculture, economic development, health, wellness and education and environmental sustainability.
