Having a sense of accomplishment and with little fanfare, the Township Road Crew departs at the end of the day after opening the Sleepy Hollow Road Bridge on September 5, 2018.

The Sleepy Hollow Road Bridge is officially open to the public as of September 5th. We still expect to complete the final paving and approach guiderail this year. The crew will be working on site restoration and improvements the next few weeks. I am hoping to fly my drone once all the work is completed.

Week 10: The bridge superstructure, deck and railing are complete. This road crew did a wonderful job and should be extremely proud of their accomplishments. Hopeful that the bridge will be opened to traffic in a few weeks. Still need to complete the tie-in to the state highway. Waiting on PennDOT to install a drain pipe and someone to raise the steel shoring to protect the abutment should the main waterline feeding the City of Bradford break at the site. Can't wait until we demolish the old bridge and complete the site grading.

Week 9: After setting the superstructure last week, we started raising the approach roadway 3 feet on one side to allow equipment to get on the bridge to install the deck. The roadway within 25 feet of the bridge utilized an integrated approach with geosynthetic reinforced 2A aggregate to prevent settlement. Finished the week installing a few panels of the prefabricated 2X6 nail laminated decking.

Week 8: This week was very busy and a little stressful. The crew had to form, tie rebar and pour the concrete bearing blocks, place the rock rip-rap at Abut 1, place the new steel beams and install the anchor rods. Finally, we have bridged the stream. Ready to install the backwall plates and timber decking starting next week. Construction progressing on schedule and pushing to completion in a few weeks. We appreciate all of the positive feedback.

On August 9, 2018 the crew completed setting the steel beams for the new Sleepy Hollow Road Bridge over Marilla Brook in Bradford Township, McKean County. The bridge incorporated weathering steel fascia beams and guiderail to enhance the rustic aesthetics. Thanks for the help of Swanson's Fabrication and M&M Contractors Crane Service.

Lifting and salvage of the Sleepy Hollow Road Bridge for adaptive reuse by a local contractor. The bridge was a local icon. Prepping the bridge site ahead of setting the steel beams for the new bridge.

Week 7: Took all week to complete the 9 courses of wall for Abut 2. Finally able to see the state highway. Crew did an exceptional job in keeping to the schedule. Plans for next week are to form and pour the concrete pads, place the rock at the base of the new abutment and remove the stream bypass pipes. Hoping to set the steel for the bridge this Thursday. Swanson's Fabrication has started assembling the steel to allow 3 sub-assemblies to be picked and set by the crane. Well worth the added cost.

Week 6: Spent first part of week fighting the water, but by the end of the week we did get the RSF footing installed. From draining the pool, to excavating the slop, to preparing the sudgrade and placing the footing, we are now ready to start the wall construction. Surprisingly, we had to evict a beaver from our dam. Hoping for better weather next week so we can get above the stream.

After stopping for lunch, Justice is anxious for an afternoon of local bridge inspections, or is he just looking for a treat. Regardless, nice having a road trip partner and client liaison.

Week 5: Finally got the shoring installed at Abut 2. Vibratory head on excavator drove 18 feet of sheet piling allowing us to excavate 7 feet of dirt to the bottom of footing. Also, we provided temporary support for old bridge to allow 37 ton rock trucks to deliver rip-rap. Placed the rock and cleaned up the excess fabric on Abut 1. Reinstalled the temporary stream bypass pipe and dug out 4 feet of dirt to end the week. Our hole is now below the streambed and water is starting to spill in. Intend to flood the hole over the weekend. Forecast not looking good for next week.
