After many years of making parts, we can quickly recognize certain design choices that have an unexpected effect on a part's cost or manufacturability. Sharp internal corners are a classic example; it may seem like a harmless design choice, but it can make your part difficult or sometimes impossible to manufacture inexpensively.

Some designers may choose plastic for their parts, thinking its pliability leads to simpler machining and lower prices. However, many of the same characteristics that render plastic so versatile can also create difficulties in CNC plastic machining.

We offer extensive plastic machining services, and our years of experience allow us to expertly handle these materials. We leverage precision workholding and plan carefully around dimensional changes and melting risk to ensure your final parts are made to spec.

Medical device machining covers a range of components and requirements. Different medical applications call for different types of manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances, and inspection methods.

We have a long history of machining small, delicate parts used in medical applications such as catheter systems, stents, and delivery devices. We have built our operation around the equipment, processes, and expertise needed to manufacture these components with precision.

Standard automation equipment can be a great fit for standard problems. But custom machine building can make a major difference when your challenges are unique to your workflow.

At KT Tech, we design and build machines around the actual process you need to improve. We work with you to understand the challenge and develop equipment that fits your operation. A well-designed custom machine can lead to faster cycle times, more consistent results, or increased safety.

In machining, preparation is key to success. We spend a great deal of time choosing the right setup and planning the optimal sequence of operations, but we also focus on understanding where risk may appear during machining.

Whether we’re working with stainless steel, PEEK, aluminum, or another material, our team looks closely at the details that can affect the success of your part. Through our extensive experience, we’ve learned how different materials behave during machining. That allows us to identify potential problems in advance and adjust our approach to be sure we meet your specifications.

We love putting the spotlight on parts we manufactured to give customers a closer look at the types of challenges we help solve every day.

We manufactured this part from SUS 303 for an automotive industry client using 3-axis machining. The project came with several challenges, including a deep, narrow feature that demanded precise tool holding and optimized cutting parameters.

If you have questions before submitting an RFQ, our FAQ covers common topics customers ask us about at KT Tech. Here's one of the most frequent questions we receive:

Q: What part sizes can you handle?
A: Every project has its own constraints, so we prefer to discuss on a project-by-project basis. But we can share general guidelines to help you understand potential feasibility.

We typically handle milling work up to roughly 20 inches maximum, and turning work up to roughly 6 inches in diameter. These are not hard limits, though, and if your part exceeds those ranges, we can evaluate whether we can still manufacture it.

A good manufacturing partner does more than make parts exactly as drawn. At KT Tech, we review designs early and speak up when we see potential issues, including manufacturability concerns and opportunities for a more cost-effective process.

Early DFM discussions help customers reduce production time and avoid added costs.

When we first opened our shop, mechanical engraving was often the standard callout on customer drawings. Now, we more often see laser marking requested, with mechanical engraving listed as an acceptable backup option.

Whether the shift reflects a change in broader industry preferences or just our customers’ own experience with laser marking, the benefits are clear. In most cases, laser marking produces sharper and clearer results than mechanical engraving, especially when contrast is important.
