Where do I start? We are wrapping up the AV and Automation at a local insurance agency. We have installed a full Ubiquiti hardwired and wifi network, speakers in every office, hallways, restrooms, and patio, all powered by Sonos, a Yaelink video conference system in the conference room, complete with a 100” TV and a custom 3D printed wall mount for the Yaelink controller. We’ve also provided and installed 16 Frame TVs in the offices, and lounge area plus an 85” TV and surround sound. A Control4 lighting system has been installed in each office, hallways, and the exterior. Lastly we have provided and installed an Ubiquiti door access system which works by facial recognition.

Call us if your office is in need of a technology refresh.

Any Prewire we do starts with a Prewire plan. The home in this series is no exception. This plan is not only a guide for wiring the home but also becomes our reference during trimout and if troubleshooting is necessary.

Before the smart home technology goes in, this property is still just framing and open spaces.

But even now you can start to see some of the unique features of the home — including a massive workshop with 30-foot ceilings, a great room with soaring ceilings, a TV built directly into the bathroom mirror, and a future boathouse down by the water.

The property will also have a smart gate system with cameras and license plate recognition… located more than 400 feet from the house — well beyond the normal limits of standard network cable.

We’ve got a few tricks up our sleeve to solve that.

Over the next several months I’ll be documenting how networking, cameras, audio, lighting, and automation come together to power the entire property.

Episode 2 in our series Behind the the Scenes of a Smart Home.,

Construction is underway and the electricians have already started their work.

This is the stage where the plans we created on paper begin turning into reality.

As the house progresses, we meet more frequently with the builder, homeowner, and other trades to stay on top of any last-minute changes before prewire begins.

Smart homes aren’t just about installing equipment — they’re about planning, coordination, and integration long before the technology ever goes in.

Welcome to our series on Behind the Scenes of a Smart Home.

Smart homes don’t just happen — they’re carefully designed and engineered long before the homeowner ever presses a button.

Over the next several months, I’ll be documenting the process of building a fully integrated smart home from the ground up.

From early construction and prewire planning to networking, cameras, lighting control, automation, and programming — we’ll take you behind the scenes of how modern smart homes are designed and built.

If you’ve ever wondered what actually goes into making a home truly “smart,” follow along.

Most people walk into a restaurant and never think about the technology behind the scenes.

But those menu TVs have to be reliable, visible, and serviceable every single day.

This morning we upgraded the display system at Mia’s Table with new TVs and articulating mounts to improve viewing angles and future serviceability.

Small upgrade. Big improvement.

Most people will never see this part of a smart home.

But it matters.

When we arrived at this project, a shelf had already been installed where our rack wiring bundle was planned to drop from the ceiling.

Removing the shelf wasn’t an option.

So we engineered around it — cutting a clean pass-through and fabricating a custom sleeve using 4-inch PVC and wood. The painters then caulked and painted it to match the room.

Once the equipment rack is installed below, the wiring disappears — and what’s left above now looks intentional.

That’s the difference between installation and integration.
