Last week, GatorFES had the privilege of attending the FES | ACEC-FL Annual Conference in Cape Coral, Florida. With an incredible team of 10 representing our club, including alumni, chairs, and general members, we explored professional licensure, AI, infrastructure design, cybersecurity, and other key issues currently facing the engineering industry. We connected with Florida’s most prominent engineering leaders to understand their diverse projects, aspirations, and perspectives.
We received the Most Active Student Chapter Award (Alpha/Beta), reflecting the effort of our leadership, the involvement of all our members, and the support of our sponsors and professionals who have helped us along the way.
Our former president and recent alum, Trevor Gross, received the Student Service Award for his dedication to advancing the skills of engineering students and connecting the various FES student chapters from around the state and was initiated into The Order of The Engineer. We also had the pleasure of watching Trevor give a presentation on preparing the next generation of engineers for a hybrid human-AI profession, encouraging thoughtful discussion amongst attendees.
Our current president, Amil Abdula, was installed as the sole Student Board Representative on the Florida Engineering Society Board of Directors, a role in which he will represent the interests of all FES Student Chapters across the state.
We also connected with different student FES chapters, including FSU-FAMU, UCF, Valencia, UM, Florida Poly, FIU, FGCU, and more to share our progress and discuss growth opportunities.
Thank you to all the professionals we learnt from and connected with at the conference, and congratulations to all of the award winners.
GatorFES is grateful for the opportunity to represent the best that the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering has to offer, and we look forward to returning next year.
