Solar Gators is a University of Florida student organization driven by passionate student engineers and designers.

We are designing, building, and racing a solar-powered vehicle to compete in the Formula Sun Grand Prix. Join Solar Gators for our 2026 Car Reveal & Competition Sendoff as we showcase the latest evolution of our solar car, Flare. After a year of design improvements, testing, and iteration, we’re excited to unveil the updated vehicle before heading into this summer’s competitions.

Come see the car up close, meet the team behind it, and be part of the momentum as we prepare for the Formula Sun Grand Prix and the American Solar Challenge.

Solar Gators was honored to host Joie Chitwood III at our student design center on Monday! 🏎️⚡️

A third-generation motorsports leader and University of Florida alumni, Joie has built an incredible legacy in racing and motorsports management. From his early career as a professional automobile stunt show manager to serving as President of the Daytona International Speedway and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the International Speedway Corporation, his impact on the racing world is undeniable!

It was inspiring for our team to speak with you Joie, thank you for taking the time to visit Solar Gators and support the next generation of engineers pushing the limits of performance and sustainability. 🌞🔧

We’re grateful for the opportunity and look forward to seeing how the worlds of racing and solar technology continue to intersect!

We would like to take a second and thank for sponsoring our team! With their generous donation, we have been able to print on-demand custom soft jaws for CNC machining, electrical board enclosures, and battery modules. We have found PETG to be excellent for a variety of applications and compatible with both Prusa and Bambu printers, while also being available in a variety of colors (Go Gators! 🟠🔵).

Throughout the semester our mechanical chief engineers host design reviews for all mechanical members of the team to attend. This gives our members the opportunity to present the progress they’ve made on their projects, and answer questions from the chief engineers, team leads, and more senior members of the team.

Yesterday marked our final design review of the fall semester. Thank you to everyone for putting in the hard work this semester! There is still much work to be done on our car before competition this summer. It’s going to be a busy and exciting winter break and spring semester! Let’s go Gators!

Flare’s first UF homecoming parade was a success! Thank you to everyone who donated to our Name a Solar Cell fundraiser! We loved getting to display your names on top of our solar array. We are proud to announce we raised over $12000 with the help of your donations and the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering! Go Gators! 🧡💙🐊
