This could be a tough year for water users. The good news? Compost can help you use less water this spring and summer.
The US Composting Council recommends that your soil should contain at least 5% organic matter, and that to maintain or achieve this level, CDFA certified compost is the product to use! Compost reduces soil compaction, helping water soak in faster so it doesn’t run off; instead, it reaches the rootzone where it’s needed. Compost acts like a sponge, holding up to 20x its weight in water. This can reduce your watering needs by up to 25%.
👍 For existing lawns: lightly rake compost over the surface to help keep soil cool and retain moisture.
👉 For new lawns: till compost into the top 6 inches of soil for greater water savings.
